As far as I know there is no town in England, Scotland or Wales called Christmas Island. The clue is cryptic: it does not mean what it says, but it does say what it means. There must be a way of reading the clue that points directly to the answer even if the apparent meaning is designed to mislead.
After the answer is revealed, anyone is free to PM me if they feel the clue is unsound or if they can suggest where it might have been better phrased.
