Submitting something utterly silly -- hopes of perhaps opening things up ... Sanquhar ! The desert: SAHAR (the third A, "understood"); within that -- between first A, and H -- initials-type abbreviations for particular lighthouses: "n" = Needles (Isle of Wight); "qu" = Quai des Abeilles at Le Havre, France. Read your mind, haven't I :D ?

Correct. To explain. As you approach this station you pass two lighthouses (one still in use) and you are in the only officially recognised desert in the UK.
