Ah well, as a Cumbrian I wouldn't count Alsager as being North-West!

So for all those upset by the World Cup results:

Backward races link up with the Spanish, or indeed the backward French!

A station on the branch to Newquay.

Fearing that my mind is thoroughly in the gutter: but how about Spooner Row? Play on words -- Newquay = "nookie"; "spooning", an archaic slang word for kissing-and-cuddling: that seen as a stage on the way to the aforesaid n-word ...

Your mind isn't in the gutter, it's down in the sewer and stuck on a great big fatberg. Think again but less salaciously.

It's on the ex-Caledonian Railway branch from Port Glasgow to Wemyss Bay, situated in the upper suburbs of Greenock.

I do rather feel that to a fair number of Sassenachs, the "more intricate intricacies" of the rail network of Scotland's central belt, are just a closed book -- I hasten to add, our loss ! A year or so ago, looking for a clue to set in this game: I found from the national list, Addiewell on the Glasgow -- Edinburgh via Shotts route: a station I'd never heard of before. At least one responder to my clue, mentioned that it was also a totally new place to him ...

We seem to have a deafening silence!

Clues: It's an unstaffed two platform station on a double track non-electrified line.

I fear that I utterly "don't know from" electric loco depots -- happen not to be part of my side of the hobby.
