I heard from someone who is currently a driver at XC that they need more driver trainers so that could delay things. The position of driver trainers is currently on their job website due to close on March 7. Hopefully things pick up once that is all sorted

I haven't heard anything since passing my assessment centre in September. I believe I still have the DMI to do (I did the short online interview with the 2 managers) and also medical.....is that the same for you guys or have you done your medicals and DMI's?

I did my DMI before I did the assessments, but I suspect you may be a different depot. Your medical is done after they have a course date for you.

I noticed XC have advertised for a DTM at Edinburgh.. I wonder if this has anything to do with taking on more Drivers at the depot.

I have been told by my friend who's a driver for xc out of Waverly that this advert is most likely because one of the current DTMs is on a secondment and that they normally would just run with two DTMs for a full compliment of drivers. Are you waiting on an Edinburgh start date also?

I'm waiting on Cambridge but not heard anything since September. I suppose 6 months of silence isn't that long but if I don't get something over the summer I will accept defeat, although I have job alerts set with other TOCs so hopefully the assessment centre pass won't have been a complete waste of time!

When I spoke to recruitment at the end of January the plan was still for a course in June and September. Getting late on now for a course in June considering some will have extended notice periods but you never know!

I’ve just spoken with XC HR. The June and September courses still haven’t been filled. They have been told which depots will be given a space by the end of next week

Is that for both June and September or just June, or did they not really say?

He gave the impression it was for both
Fingers crossed then, in the grand scheme of things still hasn’t been that long for me been in the pool for just under a year now

New starters are being trained on voyagers first, then being followed by 170 when route learning

So as a new starter you would be taking the 170s? Cheers what route is that then Nottingham to Cardiff

Trained on Voyagers first then 170s after unless they change the order.

From Birmingham the traction routes are as follow.

170s
- Leicester / Cambridge
- Cardiff / Gloucester
- Derby / Nottingham

Voyagers
- Bristol
- Manchester
- Derby
- Reading / Bournemouth
- Cardiff

I spoke to Andy around start of February and he stated they were essentially waiting for the depots to give recruitment the numbers needed for the courses. From what others have posted, that still seems to be the case.

When they know people will get the call/email I'm sure. Railway recruitment is notoriously slow, after all
