I was told the hotel was in Birmingham and the those candidates would travel to Derby.

Unless something is changing in the new year, the hotel used is in Derby and all trainees for all depots lodge there for the duration of the driver course.

Does anyone have a T&C summary as a trainee train driver with XC, holidays, pay etc? Can't find an up to date version anywhere.
I just heard back from Andy Page.
He said there are further courses planned for March, June and July but he doesn't know the depot allocations yet. This is in addition to the January course which isn't for Cambridge depot (I'm in the talent pool for Cambridge).

Cheers for the update mate, Andy said the same to me when I spoke to him too. Nice to know there are courses planned, just hoping my depot needs drivers at some point next year!
Hours for a trainee are 35 per week, over a 5 day working week. Pay starts at £32,717 raising to £43,347 once training and handling hours have been completed. When fully qualified (with core routes and traction) that raises to £63,190.
Annual leave includes 5 weeks of block leave (25 days total) and an additional 6 ad-hoc days, plus an additional 1 for every year's employment up to a maximum of 5 (11 total).

Wasn’t there a 15% pay rise agreed a few months ago? I’m sure this was over a 3 year period but I imagine it will be back dated for the past 2 years

Thank you, so Day 1 on the training course the pay starts at £32K. are all XC depot driver jobs 35 hours over 4 days a week?
The £32,717 and other pay rises mentioned is after the payrise. There’s a couple of more pay increments after becoming qualified.
The starter salary before this was £28,464.
Whats the other pay levels like then could I ask?

I’m sure when I originally seen the talent pool position advertised (last year) it stated that the final salary was around £65,000. With the 15% pay rise agreed this year it should be in the region of £75,000. Not £63,190 as the post I was referring to states. But no one seems to be able to clarify this. Maybe you can shed some light on it?
There was an advert for qualified driver recently it the jumps were £63k to £68/9k and then finally to £74-somethingK so that would make sense
Ah I see, the 63k he is referring too is the first increment once you become qualified and learned your first route.
It’s then about 69k second year and 74k third year.

For those going to the RCG in Manchester it’s not the easiest to find, as it’s just a door with no signage. Their door is in the middle of the Armed Forces Careers Office, then you go upstairs.
Yes I did. Sat my assessments and passed them today. I found the RCG a much more relaxing experience as a candidate than the OPC centre was.
Me too I found them a lot more friendly and welcoming than the OPC, they really put me at ease!

They were a lot more welcoming, he shook my hand when I arrived. They had a bit of a joke with us. He was formerly a driver and it made my MMI feel a lot more authentic. I also got told immediately after my MMI I passed, which I believe the OPC do not but I might be wrong.
It isn't that OPC staff were nasty or anything, just a lot more robotic.
I second this too. The guy who did my MMI was an ex northern DM. It put me at ease and I felt a lot more relaxed

Is anyone here booked to have tests on Friday 17th in Manchester? Have you heard anything about the tests? I haven’t received any confirmation emails and I haven’t received any reply from recruitment either.

Hi all,
I passed the OPC in Manchester in October for Cambridge depot but have not heard anything from XC since. I chased them before Christmas just to get an acknowledgement of being in a Talent Pool or potential medical date etc but have not heard anything back, other than from Matthew in recruitment saying he has moved on lol. I am ex-military and currently in the Police so am fully au fait with large organisations lack of communication skills but just wanted to check that complete radio silence post-assessment centre has been others experience?
