Day 3 in the First Test saw Pakistan crumble to 135 all out (37.3 overs) in their second innings. Three wickets each for Archer, Robinson and Tongue.

England win by an innings and 103 runs, with two days to spare.

Two days and a session to spare with a lot of delay. The whole match was 175.3 overs, less than two days’ worth.

Pakistan were really poor, and if they don’t drastically improve could end up losing the series 3-0.

Barring weather, you would expect England to win 3-0. But you'd really hope that England will be forced out of 3rd gear, as that was the easiest innings win I've seen.

It will be a headache for the caterers, who will have geared up to supply food and drink to thousands of people who now won't be there. No doubt some of that will be frozen or non-perishable, but fresh food in that quantity may be hard to find a use for.

I wonder if this way of thinking by those in charge of cricket in the UK could be tested by players normally in the England team from the northern counties stating they will refuse to accept that reasoning and be prepared not to play in the England side. Why decry FIFA when we still have "the old farts that once were referred to" ruling the roost much closer to home.

I’m sure Joe Root has lots of principles, but a three year central contract at a base level of just under a million quid a season, plus match fees, bonuses, sponsorships etc is a lot to give up. Isn’t ever going to happen

Lancashire, now in Division 2 of the County Championship, now lie in 7th place in an 8-team table...

It’s the fourth lowest, but the lowest this century

Because the ECB would much rather that the only grounds England played at were Lords, the Oval, Edgbaston and maybe Trent Bridge occasionally. But they know that they would struggle to get away with that.

Yup, we had our test status stripped and there's no way it's ever coming back. To he honest the ECB probably wish they could strip our international status more generally. Well that along with our First Class County status. Conspiracy theorist? Moi?

Yeah part of me can't help but wonder if the mistake was having the temerity to win things rather than letter proper counties win them. When were the whipping boy in the 90s and early 00s that was fine. A charity case you know old chap. But when we started battering real counties suddenly we appear to have become a problem.

is the correct answer - Bad enough Yorkshire won things but at least they had the decency to be terrible for the best part of 30 years and when they were good in the dark ages they were run by proper chaps!
