Bairstow is clearly very average with the gloves and isn't really adding a huge deal with the bat. England's problems have started with their selections this series.

Of all the Bazball stuff over the last year sticking Ali at number 3 isn't that crazy, he's more than capable. The problem is that in the likely event we lose this then that decision will be one of the main focuses in the post mortem. Batting and in particular decision making has been poor right down the order.

Yep. Need to be ruthless with Anderson and Broad where appropriate. Brilliant servants that they've been this is a results business and it's about this current series. If that's the last we've seen of Anderson then so be it. We can ill afford another Alec Stewart situation where a past it player was apparently bigger than the outcome of the series. Again, I'm not doubting the absolute passion or love of playing for their country of Stewart, Broad and Anderson. The latter two of course may have some say in the direction of this series. However if they aren't part of our future then let's not lose too much sleep if thats their goose cooked.

He certainly justifies his place, stand up and be counted and all that. Robinson, on the other hand...... He may be destined to go down as another Steven Finn, a shooting star whose brightness fizzled out quickly, So long as the Aussies stick with Warner, Broad should stay.

A 3-0 lead to the Aussies would have been a massively lopsided scoreline, as all 3 games could have gone either way.

Woakes and Wood both had excellent matches on their return to the side.

Stokes should bat 3 he's one of our 2 best technicians and if he can't bowl he's wasted at 6. Foakes keeps and bats 7 Woakes, Wood and Broad 8 9,10.
Jimmy wouldn't play for me, if he's fit I'd play Tongue. I'm not a massive Ali fan but we have probably limited our options. I'd bat him 6.

I'd put Stokes lower down for a run chase.
Broad may have to be rested for the next Test, being 37. If so, I would bring in Anderson for him and Tongue for Robinson. Oh, and Foakes - please - for Bairstow.

They have, historically, not been sentimental about it. Ian Healy, for example, was unceremoniously ditched when the selectors decided Adam Gilchrist was a better bet, even though Healy was planning to retire at the end of the next series.

The traditional new years test. He's an New South Welshmen and they seem to get away with a lot more than say a Victorian would. He really should be dropped but won't. Boland and Murphy will be made scapegoats instead.

Warner's been a flat track bully his entire career. Plays Australia well while being absolutely useless elsewhere.
