He’s probably a slightly better keeper than Buttler but his batting seems to have been found out at test level - he gets bowled far too much for a test batsman.

So long as Jonny ( ) came in lower down and not when England were 8-1 or 11-2, I think he'd do fine (again)over time.No less a judge than Ted Dexter was very effusive about the extra time he seemed to have to choose his stroke, like Gower and a very few others, when he first appeared. He seems to have been poorly handled by coaches/selectors over the ensuing years and is probably seen as a 'loner', which often goes against the talented in a team sport. I'd put him as a much better keeper for test cricket, but that's only from what I've seen on TV.

Having said that, I agree Foakes should be back in the team, but it seems unfeasible it can happen right away.

Yes - I don't think our bowling has been too bad overall - the batting & fielding is where the big issues are. The number of catches (which shows that the bowlers are doing their job and creating chances) that have been put down has been appalling, and if half of those had been taken, things could well have looked very different. The main issues for the bowlers has been a lack of match practice, and you can't do anything about the weather.

No more play due to the thunderstorm.

England's lack of reliable openers continues. Since Sir Alistair retired, my impression is that the score at the fall of the second wicket has rarely been more than about 20. I'm tempted to go through the scorecards and list the scores at the fall of first and second wickets, but I think it would be a depressing exercise.

Never mind finding new openers, we haven't even been able to replace Alastair Cook at slip!
