Star West Indian import Andre Russell will be under strict instructions not to touch any teammates on Friday night at the MCG.

Russell will make his Melbourne Stars debut after landing in Australia earlier this week.

He spent 72 hours quarantining in Sydney and spent Thursday night in Melbourne.

Cricket Australia has given the green light for the all-rounder to play under rigid Covid-19 guidelines, which are more strict in Victoria and NSW than they are in other states.

When Russell arrives at the MCG, he must enter through a different gate to his new teammates, use a different lift, and set up in changing rooms understood to be in the Great Southern Stand.

How's he going to run between the wickets without coming within 2m of another player? Surely he'll that close to his team mate, the bowler, umpire and keeper at some point?

What does anyone make of this comparison of two of the slower-bowling brigade bowling on the same wicket:-

Leach .... 13 - 0 - 102 -1 ..... Average of 7.85 runs per over conceded

Lyon ...... 34 - 5 - 91 - 4 ...... Average of 2.68 runs per over conceded

Great performance by England. Got the test wrapped up quickly by being uttlerly useless for most of it. I know it 35 years since we won at the Gabba and that we have won one of our last 10 tests and hardly ever beat Australia in Australia but still. Awful.

Fox Cricket is calling the game from the studio in Sydney, The 7 network was calling the game from the studio in Melbourne. Radio wise SEN was calling from thier studios in South Melbourne. Triple M were calling from a setup I think within channel 7. Only the ABC were at the ground.

Triple M at one point was using vision off a laptop of all things!

When things slowly we went back to the good old days of the ABC covering the game with a single camera behind the stumps.

Presumably the BBC didn't have anyone actually in Brisbane, so the ABC commentary was the only option when the video stream failed.

When you pick slow bowlers based on the wickets they take on their home ground of Taunton (i.e. Bess as well as Leach) you should do the same as with batsmen who make the majority of their runs on the Oval pitches (Pope and Burns of the current crop) and reduce their notional average by a third as a 'handicap' before you assess them against other candidates. Simon Harmer of Essex, at the top of his game and eligible for England selection, should have been brought in as soon as he qualified by residence and, yes, he's taken plenty of wickets at Taunton, Chelmsford, and all points in-between. He can also contribute with the bat.
