Not sure it will be a whitewash. I'm sure the weather will save England in at least one match.
Joking (maybe) apart is it surprising when there is too little preparation? Where are the games against state sides to get players acclimatised to the conditions?

Covid precautions killed games against anyone other than intra-England squad matches. And then the weather killed off a bunch of that time as well. Though Australia have faced similar issues and it didn't appear to do them any harm in the bowling department at least...

They weren't really possible due to COVID restrictions

The Aussie bowling attack did well at the T20 world cup and have had, I assume, some Shield games to warm up. Can an England team ever have gone on tour without any warm up games? I think they played 2 days.

I follow Shield scores and didn't notice Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc featuring, though Cameron Green did( :) ). I remember some good scores from Labuschagne and Head though.

As for warm-up games, each time there's a post mortem following an Ashes tour (so that's almost every time) the ECB says 'next time we'll insist on more match preparation' whereas in practice they do nothing of the sort, as money talks almost as much in cricket as in football, and where's the money in Tasmania v England for instance, so it's out?

England have to bowl well this evening. Australia cant be 87-0 at lunch because they will be 300-2 by the close and it will be game over. Imagine if we had a bowler who had the hex over the likes of Warner.

Without Broad and Anderson England don't have a strike bowler.

So, after two days, Australia are nearly 200 runs ahead, two of England's bowlers (Stokes and Robinson) may have injuries, and a third (Leach) has been almost totally ineffective. Where do we go from here ?

I'd been looking forward to some late night and early morning cricket commentary to brighten up dark winter days.

My only ray of hope this morning ...

In 2010, also at Brisbane, England conceded a first innings lead of 221 to Australia. The match was drawn after England's top three made two centuries and a double century in the second innings, and England went on to win the series 3 - 1.

As an aside, Broad and Anderson were both playing in that series, too.

Look at the form guide. Look at the recent averages of the England openers. Burns in particular is in awful nick. Then look at the Aussie pace attack. Aint gonna happen.

If only. It came at him (relatively speaking for a slip catch off a pace bowler) gently, and it hit him on the wrist. Enormous misjudgement

But the top three now aren't anywhere near the standard of Cook, Strauss and Trott.

Let's be honest, amid all the stuff about lack of preparation time - which incidentally applies to both sides - England's batting line-up is very, very poor. They are just a collapse waiting to happen.

18-0 after 6 overs, after a first over Lbw was overturned

An idea would be a total of 600 to set 300 but I will leave it to you all to work out the likelihood of that
