Day 1 of the first Test Match saw England lose their top five batsmen to the Sri Lankan bowling attack by the lunch period, but an excellent 87 not out by Foakes with assistance from the later order batsmen saw England close the day on 321-8.

When England were finally all out for 342 in their first innings on the second day, Jimmy Anderson had added yet another Test Match "not out" to his ever growing collection.

D.Perera had a good innings bowling return of 31-6-75-5.

In the Second Test Match, England recovered from positions of being 89-4 and then 134-5 thanks to 64 from Curran and 63 from Buttler to post an all-out score of 285 against Sri Lanka.

D.Perera had creditable figures of 24.4 - 5 - 61 - 4.

On Day 2 of the Second Test Match, Sri Lanka recovered from position of being 165-6 to move on to 260-8 the last time I looked, with 50s from Karunarate (63), D de Silva (59) and R Silva (55 not out)

Might be of interest to one or two - Denis Compton's unique position of being the only England batsman to score three half centuries before his 21st birthday has now been equalled by Sam Curran. If only we could get a number 3 batsman and reliable successors to Anderson and Broad (forget Wood) we might have got the basis of a half decent team, home and away. I do believe Bairstow has to fit back into the team, as specialist batsman if necessary.

I've just finished reading "England The Biography" by Simon Wilde, which is the story of the English Cricket Team between 1877 and 2018.

It isn't a completely chronological story, as it takes a topic and runs with it for while and then starts a new topic and does the same. This means that there's quite a bit of overlapping at times but there isn't much repetition despite that.

I found it very good, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Just one of those once in a thousand times chances. The first time I ever hit a golf ball it would have been a hole-in-one if the flag hadn't stopped it trickling in! All subsequent goes were double figures at each hole. My wife, when drunk, was persuaded to take part in a game of darts and, despite not knowing one end of the dart from the other and also, being shortsighted unable to really see the board, scored a bullseye and then a triple twenty. Most of her other darts after that failed to make contact with the board.

However it's come to light that the umpires may require a trip to thier optometrist. Footage has come to light showing him bowling multiple no balls with the umpire not calling a single one.
At the moment they've discovered 16 instances of him overstepping in the first innings alone. In one instance every ball of an over was overstepping.

On two occasions it seemed as if Ben Stokes had been dismissed, only for replays to reveal that the on-field umpire had failed to spot no-balls.

On both occasions, the on-field umpire that failed to spot the no-balls the bowler was Sundaram Ravi, with analysis done by Sky Sports claiming that 40% of deliveries in one Sandakan spell were illegal

The so-called 'neutral' umpiring stance has led to a huge downgrade and, I'd suggest, with 3rd and even 4th umpires and video technology in place, it's time to get 'home' umpires involved in tests again, if only at one end.

Quite a bit of grass left on it. However the pitch is more being described as a comb over pitch. The grass covered the gremlins that became apparent in the 2nd season.

CA are once again trying to win back fans that are peeved from events earlier in the year by closing off the shaded area of the stadium. Apprantly they think Perth people like roasting in 40 degree sun.

I'm interested to hear that. I'm almost unable to see any cricket on TV these days, not subscribing to Sky, etc, and so restricted to (occasional) highlights and clips, so have to go on what I read. In the English cricket press I've not come across any rave reviews of British umpires for ages, but, of course, they don't appear in tests in this country.

Just looked in on the Test Match and India in their first innings had moved on to 223-4 then proceeded to lose four wickets, three of them to Lyon and after 96 overs, are currently 254-8. Lyon currently has figures of 30 - 6 - 50 - 3.
