From a bad start (16/2) they rallied to 453/6, then lost three wickets for three runs leaving the last pair 43 to get with the number 11 batsman barely able to walk thanks to a hamstring injury, then ultimately fell 16 runs short of the unlikeliest of victories

Leicestershire batted first against Hampshire and slumped to 19/4, then 89/6. Harry Swindells then played the innings of his life, 117 not out off 96 balls, as county recovered to post a competitive 267/7

Hampshire looked to be in control and got to the final two overs needing only 11, but a great catch by Josh Hull from Chris Wright’s miserly penultimate over and then some real cojones from Hull bowling the last saw Leicestershire win by 2 runs

As a life long Foxes supporter it brought a tear to my eye. A team without superstars and with a smattering of local players, and without the money that comes to the test ground counties, winning a final

Well done Leicestershire. Ridiculous how the ECB has downgraded the 50 over competition, but such trophies do still mean massive amounts, especially to the non test ground counties. I had a great time watching Kent win this last year.

I attended the Cricket for the first time in a few weeks, today. I can report that the resident Crayonista was not there and I was informed that the CEO advised we will not be seeing her again.

Make of that what you will. I think it may have been more than submitting a few childish designs of sports grounds.

Someone asked and was told that the Crayonista was not ejected from the club. She was unhappy with a few things, including an argument with a waitress in the restaurant. She then asked for her membership money back which was refunded.

There may have been an issue in returning the ground development plans. No one would know where they were sent for recycling.

Still plenty of time for them to find some excuse to deduct us enough points to keep us down in Division Two so lets not jinx it just yet.

I thought it was "interesting" that Middlesex have been pulled up for financial cock ups (admittedly not as grand in scale a those that faced Durham but arguably more self-inflicted than ours) and have gotten off with little more than a gently tapped wrist. See also Yorkshire's antics and resultant punishment of a 48 point deduction in this years Championship and a four point deduction from this years blast (which was already over by the time the punishment was announced). Compared to Durham's enforced relegation from Division One and a 48 point deduction from the following seasons Championship, a four point deduction from the following seasons Blast and a two points from the following seasons one day cup along with the striping of the very Test status that we had been pushed to pursue and had landed us in financial trouble in the first place.

They had 12 deducted themselves thanks to their atrocious behaviour against us last week, which also resulted in their captain being suspended for this week’s match, one suspended by the club pending an investigation into racist comments, and two other players “not considered for selection”

Horrible bunch of people, and all because it looked for a bit like they might fail to defend 499

I was hit by a fast short-pitched delivery when playing for Middleton 2nd XI in the mid-1960s that hit me on the collar bone, breaking it.

It has been announced that Root won’t play. Roy has been called-up for the remaining two Ireland ODI matches, presumably to prove his fitness, but has turned down the chance!

One of those players was being touted for England selection in early Summer 2022 on the basis of very little I could see, with one commentator even suggesting he could be a future captain! No coincidence that Ollie Robinson, the fast bowler rather than the wicketkeeper-batsman, plays for Sussex given his penchant for foul-mouthed outbursts.

England finally won by 48 runs and what do you make of the bowling return of Scrimshaw...8.4 - 0 - 66 - 3 (Econ. rate of 7.62)

The tail certainly wagged for Ireland 286 all out:-
No 9 ... McCarthy.....41 with 1 x 6 and 4 x 4
No 10 .. Young.........40 not out with 2 x 6 and 2 x 4
No 11.. Little...........29 with 1 x 6 and 1 x 4

To my mind, this was a chance to possibly choose 'travelling reserves' for the World Cup and, on cue by my reckoning, Jacks and Ahmed confirmed that they should be two of the three allowed, to join the already-announced Archer. I do wonder whether 90 mph Carse with his obvious batting prowess should have been preferred to Atkinson though in the main team.

I used to have a best friend called Scrimshaw, last heard of in Denmark in 1969, but as he came from Derbyshire I wonder whether he's related. I shall watch his career with interest.

On day one of the Division One County Championship game between Kent and Lancashire, Kent's bowlers struck early against the Lancashire top order who were 18-3 very early in the first session, but the Lancashire middle order rallied and eventually Lancashire were all out for 327 in 96 overs.
