Are the independent lines, the lines that dive under and cross over?
They are the lines usually only used by freight trains which go under and to the west of Crewe station through Basford Hall Yard and rejoin at Basford Hall Junction. They don’t cross over, but they take freight traffic away from the passenger station. Their recent resignilling makes them more viable/usable by passenger trains, as proposed.

Although of course they were used by many diverted passenger trains during the 1985 blockade for the remodeling of Crewe station.

So, would that mean TfW *not* calling at Crewe for the duration?
Yes although if they are able to call at Sandbach that isn't too far and the passengers from the stopping service would have a bus going that way anyway. Depends on how it fits together, from the other side they'll definitely have to run a bus to cover their own stopping service into Crewe.

I am really not looking forward to this! The work of course needs doing as sadly the station is in a bit of a state. It is a shame all the inconvenience isn't going to result in any enhancements.

Its also for a significant amount of S&C renewals. You can blame those who canned HS2 Phase 2a for what we are left with.

Do we know if any roof repairs are just to fix the rain that pours in where there is a proper roof? Or, is it also meant that the parts where there was a roof, platforms 2 & 3, is the roof going to be put back on? Why is there no roof there actually, only the supporting framework? Thanks.

No repairs - it is about removal, not fixing or replacing. I guess it won't leak anymore if it's not there!

It's always been about money - but over the years there have been various plans to either relocate and rebuild Crewe, or more recently, massively enhance for HS2 - all of which came to nothing.

Victim of HS2 cuts.
