I will go ‘see my mum’ this afternoon. But I will stay outside the house and hope she leans out the window or sits in the front hall. The card went over days ago so should be sterile by now.
I have stuff in my boot that I will get my Dad to take into the house, so there will have been a couple of days between me touching them and him touching them.

I have a motorbike and conditions are perfect, especially with less “cages” on the road.

I was thinking of having a ride on my own, I thought I would not be in contact with anyone which is the main concern.

But then I considered, what if I have an accident? The ambulance service, police and possibly fire service would have to come and scrape me off the road and this would divert vital resources and they’d all have to come in contact with me and each other.

So I think I’ll leave the bike at home for now. Regrettably.

Not just bikes but anyone going out should think carefully about their actions.

Well theoretically my whole family is supposed to be self isolating due to various medical issues, but tomorrow I need to head out as I need to visit a specific clothes shop in Birmingham (there is no shop closer to my house because they cater to men my size - a bit more cuddly - so I can get some new trousers for my return back to work in a couple of weeks after being off sick with a burst haematoma) and a hair cut (as the hair is near enough in my eyes and ears (4 months worth of natural curls) so I can look decent for my return to work.

No-one has said you can't drive, only 'non-essential journeys by public transport' are strongly discouraged. An obvious unfairness to public transport users, but it is about social distancing rather than travel in itself. You can be on your own in a car (or with people in your house anyway), drive to the country, wander about and come home, quite safely. Yet when people all go to the same place (Brighton Beach or Snowdon Summit), the social distancing is not achieved. They could, of course, have gone to the lesser visited places and not come within 100m of someone else. But that requires thought and lack of sheep/herd mentality.

But there is real anger here at the thoughtlessness of those who piled in their cars on Friday evening and headed over here, local Mountain Rescue team have said it is like a sunny BH, and they are not keeping their Social Distance It is irresponsible....they have been 'asked' not to come, now they will have to be told/ordered.

Yeah, order online, get a style which potentially doesn't fit (not all styles are in stock have the same leg/chest width (or are comfortable around the gents region)) so have to go to the post office if it doesn't to have to wait for the shop to receive it and exchange, whereas I could go in store, try them on to make sure they fit and avoid potential refund/exchange issues).

My mother can't do haircuts due to her arthritis, and I don't trust my brothers with hair clippers (we tolerate each other at the best of times!)

No, I don't work for the NHS or a supermarket, I work for a local authority instead (my department is already short staffed due to sick leave and maternity leave without me being off - before I broke up for Christmas we had 3 members of staff off sick, plus one on maternity!).

I embarked last night on contacting hotels I had booked via booking dot com, to see what their policy was about cancelling rooms I had booked at the non-refundable rate. So far two of them have very kindly replied saying I can have a full refund given the extra-ordinary circumstances.

I am keeping a note of which ones do this, and will make sure I re-book with them as soon as this is all over. As for the others, I will find somewhere else.

(There is a header on the booking dot com website currently saying they understand people's plans might change, and to contact the hotel direct if we wish to see what the options are.)

Why is it also sensible for shops to open early for NHS workers? There are thousands of them all turning up at supermarkets at once! How many ill doctors and nurses can we survive with.
