How many trains dont call at Gatwick Apt or Haywards Heath? :D

Two an hour each way don't call at either! ( The fast "Belle" diagrams every 30 minutes between Victoria and Brighton call only at Clapham Junction and East Croydon in both directions ).

The last Nottm-Leeds service I think goes via Derby, but calls :D
Yes, that service in the evening definitely calls at Derby; it's the morning one that I'm not sure about (but I've definitely observed one running through non-stop).

And so do the semi-fast Birmingham N St-Lime Street LM trains...and yes VT used to stop there, that's why the platforms are so long :)

The late night TPEs dont really count, as it isn't their normal line of route....

What's the problem with York? It has a population of 195,000 and links into several other local services.

You dont actually have to go back too far to find a time when a certain amount of long distance traffic missed out York .
The famous express trains of the 1930s ran non stop thru York , as did many deltic services and even into the HST era certain Scotland trains didnt stop there . The first electric timetable included two up and two down pullmans that served Northallerton / Durham and Newcastle went straight thru York in 1991. Often via the avoiding lines
I have heard rumours that the new 2011 eureka timetable may see the 1700 northbound missing out York again.
Of course as things stand today everything stops here .

4tph Milngavie-Edinburgh (only two call at Caldercruix, Armadale and Blackridge)
2tph Helensburgh Ctl-Airdrie

:D Confirmed :D

I've seen a link that suggests a more limited calling pattern for some services. It was posted on Scot-rail.co.uk a while back.

Basically, many people thought that the High Street terminators would simply be extended (as happens in the peaks ATM) running non-stop to Blairhill then all stations to Edinburgh. This gives the service pattern you've suggested. However, the document in question suggested that this train need only call at Sunnyside and Airdrie (and that Blairhill and Coatdyke were "additional stops"). This suggests to me that many of them will in fact run through Blairhill and Coatdyke (which, as a Blairhill local, would disappoint me). It also looked like there would be other worthwhile enhancements (such as a non-stop Airdrie-High Steet train from Edinburgh).

That said, it could this may refer to a minimum service with Scotrail choosing to call trains at these stations. Or I could be talking nonsense. We'll see when the proper timetable comes into the public domain.

I'm sure some East Coast and/or XC emit Haymarket, they certainly used to, but I'm not sure which.

Why It gets an hourly service is beyond me as most of the trains stop for about 20 Seconds to pick up/drop off no one. Prestbury is only moderately better.

There are plenty of trains which don't call at Adlington Cheshire, including the Manchester - Euston Virgin services and XC!

Regarding Preston, the Glasgow/Edinburgh sleeper isn't advertised to stop there although it probably stops for a crew change. If there is such a thing as a compulsory stop it is likely to be due to franchise requirements.
There are many more stations where all trains are booked to stop - Birmingham Snow Hill, Lymington Town, Tottenham Hale (apart from a couple of early morning services), all stations on the North London and Gospel Oak - Barking lines, all stations on the Bedford - Bletchley line, and almost every station served by Merseyrail 507/508s.

Collingham seems to have nearly everything stop there now. God knows why it isn't exactly a big revenue generator. May stops only have 2 people getting on not really justification for slowing down what was a nonstop train before emt took over.

Most of the services from Ashford do, in order to make High Speed look more attractive. There's a few services from Hastings which run fast through.

Re: Berwick, yeah, but it always seems to get more stops than Alnmouth (serving Alnwick and its castle and tourit coast), but I suppose it is more 'important'. Quietest First Class Lounge in GB at Berwick?

I'm sure I read - must be a good five or so years ago now - that Northumberland county council pays some sort of subsidy to XC and East Coast to ensure that Berwick, Alnmouth and Morpeth all get a service connecting to Edinburgh and Newcastle with a certain frequency. That's why most of the EC trains which do stop at Alnmouth don't then stop at Berwick.

I'm always a little surprised that Darlington gets as many as it does (I reckon that only 2 EC trains in each direction don't stop there?) but I'd put that down to its connections to Boro and smaller North East ECML stations (Durham, C-L-S), and equally that Doncaster doesn't get a few more (perhaps because Hull Trains and now Grand Central cover it as well?).

IIRC platform 4 wasn't long enough to hold a 225 (that's the version I was given anyhow)

Most stop at Haymarket now. The 91 hangs off the end of platform 3 but the coaches are all on. Platform 1 was extended and can take full hst at the same time as platform 1 was done.

Cheers for confirming

With a lot of the other "smaller" stations discussed in this thread, the simple reason is probably that on a regular/ clockface timetable, its not worth the confusion of having some trains omit a certain stop, unless you are going to have quite a lot miss it

Just thought - if Platinum Trains had got their bonkers application accepted, we'd be able to add Dundee to the list of "stations on train a day doesn't stop at"

I don't understand why Preston is compulsory stop yet Lancaster isn't, Lancaster's more important as a large city.

?? Preston is over twice the size of Lancaster and Lancashire County Council HQ is based in Preston.

Additionally Preston is an important interchange for passengers to/from Manchester and Blackpool lines - far biggers markets than Morecambe or Barrow lines

Suprisingly almost everything stops at Newton Abbot, other than of course the 08:44 off Penzance. 10 years ago there were a few more services that ran fast from Exeter to Plymouth and even some where first stop after Exeter was Totnes.
