Hi everyone!
I was caught in some delays in the south on the 23rd June and I don't understand which company I should claim the Delay Repay with.

My planned journey was:
Portsmouth Harbour 17:17 - Basingstoke 18:42 (SWR train)
Basingstoke 18:48 - Reading 19:05 (XC train)

However, the XC train was cancelled, but the SWR train was delayed by 7 minutes so I would have missed the connection anyways.

My actual journey in the end was:
Portsmouth Harbour 17:19 - Basingstoke 18:49 (SWR train)
Basingstoke 19:10 - Reading 19:35 (GWR train)

If it's relevant, I had an advance ticket for Portsmouth-Basingstoke and used the return leg of an off-peak day return for Basingstoke-Reading.
Also, BRtimes says the minimum interchange time at Basingstoke is 5 minutes so I think my original itinerary should have been valid.

Thank you!

Claim from SWR as they caused the first meaningful delay, but brace yourself for a game of pass the parcel

It is possible to overthink these things. Put yourself in the position of the "average" passenger who isn't looking at real time trains, or whatever. You got into Basingstoke after the XC train was scheduled to depart - how are you to know that it was cancelled? As far as you are concerned, your delay was entirely due to SWT.

If SWT do reject your claim and pass it to XC, appeal immediately, don't wait for XC to sit on it and then pass it back to SWT.

I agree; SWR are liable. Did you put the claim in and do you have a response yet @Perosu1 ? Please do let us know how you get on.

Thanks! I put the claim in on Monday and am still waiting on a response. Will update the thread when I get a reply.

Good news, SWR has approved the claim!
