Yesterday I was affected by the disruption on South West Trains due to someone being hit by a train at Wimbledon. When I arrived at Farnborough Main yesterday I purchased a return to London Waterloo with a Travelcard for Zones 1-6. At the time I purchased ticket I was so far not aware of the disruption. I boarded the 1416 SWT Service from Basingstoke to London Waterloo (2L46). Just before our train arrived over the announcments they mentioned that due to someone being hit by a train in the area, all lines are blocked. The guard also mentioned this to the driver as soon as it arrived in Farnborough and said to the driver that we might end up terminating at Woking. After we left the guard said that the Basingstoke to Waterloo stopper before us terminated at Surbition and said that we might do the same, but no confirmation yet. We then started running late after Brookwood. While we were held at a red just before Surbiton there the guard just confirmed that this service will terminate at Surbiton and become the Alton service at Surbiton. We then arrived at Surbiton 34 Late.
Now I am wondering if I am entitled to compensation or a refund because our service was terminated short. Realtimetrains said this service was cancelled between Surbiton and Waterloo and my planned destination was Waterloo. So does this mean that I will be able to get compensation or not.
