I have kept it up to date. At the moment it is a simple text document with a line for each entry in chronological order, minus the indefinite article.
For example, here is the first group which were in Welshman's original post:

grip of RPIs;
chuff of steam heritage volunteers;
frame of signallers;
maternity of MOMS
sentry of gateline staff

It is very easy to search for a particular term like "herd" in a number of text editors. (Also advisable to check for misspellings as in "A heard of Seacow ballast hoppers") :D
To sort alphabetically it would require a more sophisticated file type and programme, hence the enquiry about whether you had MS Office.

It is, of course, possible to have more than one collective noun as a describer of the same word, e.g.
An army of ants
A colony of ants
A swarm of ants

Naturally, and we already have had several which are variants eg
A Purr of Deltics
A ship of Deltics
A power of Class 55 "Deltics"
A brigade of Deltics named after regiments

It is most kind of you to make this offer, but my trusty ruled pad with my draft answers, a fairly retentive memory and a red pen to cross out my entries, allow me to participate as I did in the Manchester University quiz forums in 1962...:D

As I have made over 220 postings of collective nouns, my credibility level is unfortunately now beginning to be stretched to its ultimate limit...:roll:.

I made the last posting with my "unusual" collective noun for newspaper vans.
