I hope this is the right place to ask my question.

Having seen Colas Rail Freight Class 37 (37254 "Cardiff Canton") in Cambridge Station last Friday in the Early hours as part of a test train parked up at the station, I wanted to ask if there is any way of knowing when another Class 37 will pass through Cambridge in advance?

I'm really not very knowledgable on this topic, but am really keen to see some of the more different, older, working trains still in service.

The real times train website is really useful. Use advanced search choose Cambridge or Cambridge Recep (or even Derby RTC Network Rail) and put TOC code to ZZ this gives frieght and test train workings. Living near West Anglia line I know there’s a very noisy 37 on a Monday evening usually at start of each month which I think comes from Derby and ends up at Finsbury Park. The HST measuring train also comes into Cambridge from Kings Cross also

Monday 27th March: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:H34903/2023-03-27/detailed (Calls at Cambridge 1932-1936 and 2031-2038)

Thursday 30th March: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:H34635/2023-03-30/detailed (Departs Cambridge Reception Sdgs, next to the station, 1405).

Friday 31st March: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:H34545/2023-03-31/detailed (Departs Cambridge Reception Sdgs 1637)

These runs repeat on a four-weekly basis. Currently these will all be top and tail class 37s, but get them while you can because they’re likely to switch to class 43s once some clearance issues have been resolved and Colas have a few more 43s available.

That will be better, the 37s opening up in the early hours are pretty annoying to residents trying to sleep ..hahaha
