This starts at the open station of Woodlesford and follows the line of the North Midland Railway to the open station of Belper.

Well, it is actually in cudworth - and about 5 miles from Barnsley which Wikipedia says was it's previous name ...

There was another station before those three versions of the same station name you show above....... called Rawmarsh ......that the date of 1853 holds a memory of.

Beighton..........The original station closed in 1843, a new one was opened in 1893 and this too was closed in 1954

I am having to go off-line now as we have to travel a goodly distance from Prestbury in the car to Wythenshawe Hospital for the "dreaded series" of Echocardiogams on myself, to prove matters one way or the other..:roll:

It's not quite as simple as that!

The North Midland Railway built a station called "Swinton for Doncaster" in 1840, but this was later closed by the Midland Railway, who built a new station called "Swinton Town" on the opposite side of the road bridge.

This station in turn was closed in 1968, but in the 1980s the SYPTA realised a large area was now without rail transport, so they built the present Swinton station, on the site of the original NMR station of 1840.


So, yes, the new station is now on the site of the original. But this is a quiz on the closed stations of the NMR, and their Swinton station was actually closed by the MR when their new site was developed.
