What has to be remembered is that more than one company built a railway station in Beighton. The first one was built by the North Midland Railway (the line we were using) in June 1840 at a location 1.25 miles south of Woodhouse Mill. However, as that station was not convenient for the village of Beighton, it only lasted a short while and was closed on 2nd January 1843.

The better-known Beighton station was first opened on 12th February 1849 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway but was closed temporarily in February 1852 until reopening in March 1854, lasting until 1st November 1893. A third station later followed after that.

I could not miss the name Dewick in your posting and I am sure that Robert will give you both chapter and verse on his views on that particular author,,,

In which case I owe @Ash Bridge an apology. I wasn't aware of the North Midland Beighton station and we would indeed have passed through it
before diverging onto the LD&ECR at Beighton Junction.

After passing through the open station of Lincoln, we will now access the final line on this journey.....the Great Grimsby and Sheffield Junction Railway (of which the first four closed stations were sometimes known as part of the Sheffield and Lincolnshire Extension Railway).
