As @Xenophon PCDGS suggests, I don't think you can get from Woodhouse Mill to Beighton without reversing and then reversing again to get where we want to go. Much better to go direct from

I'm rather confused regarding Beighton. Having just looked at the Wikipedia page map of the area it clearly shows as you both state that we don't pass through the above station, although the North Midland Rly. diagram seems to imply that it does, also Dewick's atlas appears to agree with this?

What has to be remembered is that more than one company built a railway station in Beighton. The first one was built by the North Midland Railway (the line we were using) in June 1840 at a location 1.25 miles south of Woodhouse Mill. However, as that station was not convenient for the village of Beighton, it only lasted a short while and was closed on 2nd January 1843.

The better-known Beighton station was first opened on 12th February 1849 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway but was closed temporarily in February 1852 until reopening in March 1854, lasting until 1st November 1893. A third station later followed after that.

I could not miss the name Dewick in your posting and I am sure that Robert will give you both chapter and verse on his views on that particular author,,,:rolleyes:
