Grimesthorpe Bridge was the ORIGINAL penultimate station before its early closure to Sheffield Wicker on the old line and was only a distance of 110 chains away from Sheffield Wicker.

I am informed that was not the case. Grimesthorpe Bridge was the penultimate station before its early closure to Sheffield Wicker on the old line and was only a distance of 110 chains away from Sheffield Wicker.

By my calculation 110 chains is 1 3/8 miles. This puts it just beyond Grimesthorpe Junction, which is indeed between Brightside and Attercliffe Road on our route - so I think we have consistent information. However I can't find confirmation of its location on the old OS maps available on line and it isn't mentioned in Drake's guide to the S&R, written in 1840. So more research needed, perhaps.

I did wonder about that - but it looks as though Campbell Street was the earlier name for Leicester London Road - i.e. the current station. The various reconstructions seem to have been on the same site.
