Further update on Edinburgh Exhibition - the 1890 temporary station seems to have been elsewhere on the Edinburgh suburban route. However the 1908 temporary station (according to the NBR study group) "...had platforms on the Corstorphine branch and Down Fife Road .... Balgreen Halt opened on site later but branch only." It does, therefore, sound as though it had a platform on the E&GR. However the construction of Balgreen Halt on the Corstorphine Branch leaves it a bit uncertain - interesting to see whether Paul has a view.

The mention made of Balgreen Halt, which was on the Corstophine branch line, brings to mind the fact that the station was not opened until 29th January 1934 by the LNER.

That particular branch line commenced journey number 400 on this particular quiz on posting number 33968 dated 1st March 2016.

Niddrie (Two stations, 1831 to 1847 and 1860 to 1869 - very close to each other)

Also looked at Joppa (1st station) but concluded this was too close to the new Brunstane station.

I think we have to remember that we are using the line of the Edinburgh and Hawick Railway, not the line of the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway.

Niddrie is normally seen as being on the line section from Edinburgh St Leonards station to South Esk (Dalhousie) station.

But we are using the other line on this journey from that junction....the Edinburgh and Hawick Railway.

Joppa does seem to have had an early station on the E&H. However the location is uncertain and it was within a few hundred yards of Brunstane so should (I think) be left out on that basis. The situation with Niddrie appears confused - the Disused Stations website does seem to show a 2nd station on the E&H, but again the location is uncertain and it was close to Newcraighall so again, not qualifying for inclusion even if it did exist. (I think). I hope you don't mind these possibilities being explored - it adds to the interest (for me anyway).
