Have they been accepted into service by ROG and route cleared by NR yet?
Well this must be route cleared for the whole of the West Coast Mainline, seeing they have ran all the away from Wembley to Glasgow.
So can imagine they are route cleared for many other routes.

I’ve heard rumours that 93008 is at Portbury.
Not my photo(and mods apologies if the link is long)

6Q57 1019 Worksop - Derby RTC has 93004 and 93010 allocated. No loco allocated to haul them so maybe they are under own power.
times are Trent East 1140 and Rev at Derby station 1158-1210

Went to Rail Live today and a nice glossy booklet about the 93 in detail including a lot of technical gumpf along with the operating modes and operating sequences.

Be a little bit of night time reading later !

Don't worry, things have buffers and if the siding was straight (and they didn't get buffer-locked or anything worse) there will probably be no adverse effect....
...Apart from lawyers getting involved (trying to wind up an inspector to surmise evil outcomes) and recruiting other parasites to try to build a case for another money-go-round which I reckon is probably the greatest risk.

Maybe they’re operating a ‘crash for cash’ scam? That’s one way to get a bit of revenue out I guess.

Have ROG / Star announced a planned maintenance base for the 93s yet ? AIUI ROG maintenance for their 37s is done at Derby RTC, so maybe the 93s will also be based there eventually.

There really isn’t space on the RTC for the additonal maintenance. And I don’t believe there is a 25kV Test Shed.

Whatever happened to the days when a route was cleared to a certain profile and if stock was built to that profile it ran without further trouble?

It still exists - Loco Gauge is listed in the sectional appendix. But the modern railway has rather a lot of equipment a train must interact with correctly so it's not simply a case of physically fitting through bridges and tunnels.

Having said that, it's very possible that NR have route cleared it for a large amount of the country in one swoop by certifying it for Loco gauge, possibly even before arrival - a lot of the work can be done before the locos even got to the UK because the data is all in computer systems. Annoyingly, the PDF copies of the Sectional Appendices and PONs have vanished from NR's website for the moment so I can't check right this second if they are cleared. Somebody internal may be able to verify what clearances 93s currently have.

Lots of class 93 movements I've been following have passed through the Maid Marion Line which is a (relatively) disused stretch of track 4 miles or so long down from Kirkby lane end Jn to ironville as they pass towards Leicester where I go to see them.

Following some research the line sees 2 daily services but has recently gone up to three with class 93 units. This line was to be refurbished in the RYR scheme. Does this mean other lines like these have seen more action or is it just this one exception and does the RYR scheme have something to do with this as to what I'm aware the level crossing and foot crossings have been upgraded and updated.

Is this a positive for the area if this line gets more use or not?

Is it odd though that all the 93s have been roaded from Portbury to Worksop, whereas the 99s were hauled on own wheels from Avonmouth ?

Incidentally were all the TPE Mk5As hauled on own wheels from Portbury ?
Presume the rolling stock owner is obviously responsible for arranging the movement of their assets from manufacturer to operating base.

Could it be something to do with the difference in weights of the two types?

So a year on from one being exhibited at the same event, they have still not earned a single penny of revenue.
As alluded too on another forum, it appears the goal posts for approval continue to be moved by the infrastructure owner, and the class 93’s have not received full approval yet. Hence the 0Qxx headcodes when moving on the network.

Not odd at all. It’s up to the business how they move there assets.

Hmmm. I am very sceptical. My cynical view is that ROG have been dragging it out to delay milestone payments to Stadler because they have been unable to find customers for them. ROG are normally one to shout about things - the silence on customers for the 93s is deafening.

Can someone please explain why the 93s need to go to Tyseley for wheel reprofiling when they have hardly turned a wheel?
It maybe for the tyres to be turned to the correct UK rail profile, or they could have flats on them because of drivers not being used to the effectiveness of the brakes, in the same way the Class 68's were affected early on.

Unless anyone can provide better information, I believe the Class 93s will initially be based at Leicester LIP.
