Thanks, that's good news - it's been a very sore point for many people using the MML for years.Much better, even on the Manton diversion

Used the MML today for the first time in years and I thought my phone was broken! Thanks, that's good news - it's been a very sore point for many people using the MML for years.
Yes, the 222s are notorious for poor (or no) reception. That aspect of them with definitely not be missed!Used the MML today for the first time in years and I thought my phone was broken!
Reassuring to hear the 810's are better for this.
But there’s always the great Wi fi…Yes, the 222s are notorious for poor (or no) reception. That aspect of them with definitely not be missed!
It was a bit weird not hearing the distinct “purring” that my namesake engines make!I couldn't tell when the engines kicked in on the way north or cut out on the way back, but the engiens were definietely working when i left the train at Leicester (!)
I did hear the thud as the pan dropped.

Great to be on the first East Midlands Railway “Aurora” to enter passenger service this morning - 810010 working the 07.00 Sheffield-St Pancras as its first train. More on the 810s in the next TR UKbsky.app
The driver now deals with all CFA and PAU events.
What do CFA, PAU and PTI stand for?The TM then does the normal PTI dispatch procedure.
The TMS system sends an alarm to the driver if the toilet had been occupied closed and locked for more than 15 mins!
Do the 701s also have the 15-minute toilet alert, then?Toilet alert is similar to that on 701s. Can be quite annoying, at random.
What is meant by this?On more than one platform.
I would imagine no difference on a Sheffield as the main advantage of electric is acceleration and they don’t stop under wires. Would be interesting to see if there’s any improvement on the Market Harborough or Kettering stops on the Nottingham’sWhat are they like between London and Leicester using AC compared to the 222s that run on diesel? Faster ride does it feel like?
There were definitely some minor issues with the doors. When I was onboard there were a lot of Hitachi staff, and they were discussing whether to do a door reset at Nottingham, but that didn't actually happen. I think they had to reset the engines as well.Apparently it developed several faults during the day, would seem they’ve been rectified now hopefully if it managed to complete its full diagram today.
The mirror film on Class 222 windows reflects everything away - mobile signals / GPS, the lot!An important point none of our pioneering passengers of today have mentioned yet:
What's the mobile reception like? Surely it's better than on the 222s?
PTI is definitely platform-train interfaceWhat do CFA, PAU and PTI stand for?
'platform' = social media website (in this case, being reported on twitter as well as Bluesky)What is meant by this?
This thread covers the subject: https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...modems-laser-etched-glass-im-confused.295539/The mirror film on Class 222 windows reflects everything away - mobile signals / GPS, the lot!
Hitachi Class 800/801/802 and 803 have generally been really god for mobile / GPS reception. EMR stated there is a grey tint on their windows, not sure if that is a variation on glass used on other Class 80x and how that affects reception.
I note that train manufacturers are realising that UV reflective films in wndow glass are not helpful to Rf signals and have developed products to aid UV reflection but allowing better radio sigal penetration through the glass. Apparently it is a cheaper solution to having to install 4G/5G signal repeaters in each vehicle.
Was gonna say! Not railway platform'platform' = social media website (in this case, being reported on twitter as well as Bluesky)
Trains in electric mode generally have more rail power available and can accelerate faster. The midland main line has quite a few locations where speed has to be reduced for curvature, so the train in electric mode will more likely regain its top speed earlier once the slower restriction has passed.I would imagine no difference on a Sheffield as the main advantage of electric is acceleration and they don’t stop under wires. Would be interesting to see if there’s any improvement on the Market Harborough or Kettering stops on the Nottingham’s
PAU - Passenger Alarm Unit, basically the passcomPTI is definitely platform-train interface
Think CFA is Call For Aid, PAU not sure.
As already mentioned in post #5,091810006 is on it’s passenger debut today.
I think you'd have had to be quite close. I was almost underneath. (Don't know what happened on the way back when the pan was raised as first class was at the rear and I'm not made of money). It was a bit weird not hearing the distinct “purring” that my namesake engines make!
I’m going to do a run to Market Harborough one day; so I look forward to hearing the thud on the way back!
there's one of the project team on Twitter/X (@huwsdavis) expecting to bask in glory but getting some criticism, particularly of the seating,
To give you an idea of how space inefficient the Meridians are, this is approximately the same standard capacity as a 3-car XC 170!222/5: 50 first, 190 standard
Before or after 1st was turfed? To give you an idea of how space inefficient the Meridians are, this is approximately the same standard capacity as a 3-car XC 170!
Maybe the issue has been fixed and another fault has occurred! The accessible toilet on 810006 is reported on EMR service updates as being out of use, I guess they didn't fix the issue!
It was working on 010 yesterday.
Sounds like both to me:Maybe the issue has been fixed and another fault has occurred!
And is it both accessible toilets or just one?
701s do have a 15 minute timer alert if someone's been detected in the toilet for that period of time. Alerts driver and switches camera to focus on the outside door of the offending toilet. Guard gets alerted where reasonably possible by driver over intercom. On more than one platform.

The accessible toilet at the 1st class end was oou leaving Sheffield on 810010 with the 1400 to St.P yesterday afternoon and the fitters (plumbers) were still trying to fix when it got to DerbyThe accessible toilet on 810006 is reported on EMR service updates as being out of use, I guess they didn't fix the issue!

I've been informed they are trying to sort the issue out on the move to prevent the swap from happeningLooks like 810006 is being swapped for 222004 at Derby on 1F32 - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:Y07238/2025-12-04/detailed
so far no announcement on thetrain about any swaps. what is the issue?I've been informed they are trying to sort the issue out on the move to prevent the swap from happening
