It’s been mentioned in the Avanti rolling stock thread that the first 805 is going to be moving to Old Dalby next week for testing. Does anybody know whether the first 810 is closing in on that milestone too? And in any case, does anybody have any general 810 updates since the previous post in mid-September?
810001 and another 810 are in the test shed formed up as a 5 car train at Merchant Park, they have been through single car testing.

These are yet to be seen outside as a whole train, (single cars have been seen outside occasionally over the last few weeks).

all i've seen is a video (from the same channel as the last post in mid-sept) showing a different car being moved around

EMR have updated their website, says mainline testing due to start late 2022 (which is within next 7 weeks), note also says units (plural), not a single unit

Coming soon - Aurora InterCity trains

The new state of the art Aurora train fleet is financed by Rock Rail East Midlands and will be built by Hitachi Rail UK in County Durham. They can run using electric overhead lines wherever possible, taking advantage of the £1.5 billion Midland Main Line Upgrade and will replace the diesel train fleet.

As a result, they are quieter and greener, meaning lower carbon emissions and a better environment for passengers, stations and communities along the route. Passengers will also see major improvements, including more seats and fresh, modern interiors alongside air conditioning, free WiFi, plug sockets and better passenger information screens.
Construction is underway with the first units due to start Main Line testing in late 2022, with the first entry into passenger service due in early 2024.

When they say mainline testing, think they are telling porkies.

The first completed (if it is), has not even ventured into the test track at Hitachi factory, it is atill
Undergoing static testing inside.

It will then, and a couple more, move to Old Dalby test track for several weeks testing.

Hence them saying introduced early 2024 only five years after they were ordered. Meridians took 30 months from order to first commercial use.

[Edited]. I imagine that when they say "mainline testing" they actually mean the Old Dalby test track, which is a former mainline, built to mainline standards, and now fitted with 25kV OHLE and AIUI rated to 125mph running, at least in places.

I always understood that the whole point of the Old Dalby test track is that it uses a redundant mainline for testing.
It is, it’s separate from the network, which is why I said they are telling porkies if they think it’s starts mainline testing in a few weeks.

I think EMR have always been very economical with the truth, bend it significantly or lie. This is why I don’t fully trust that these 810s will live up to expectations until I actually see one in the flesh.

It’s got to the point where it’s a case of the Boy Who Cried Wolf - EMR may very well be telling the truth, however we simply can’t take their word for it.

If you want to see/try the new seats for the 810's it appears some will be at Derby, Sheffield and Nottingham from Tuesday.

From Tuesday 15th November we're giving our customers the opportunity to try out our new seats ahead of the arrival of our Aurora Intercity trains. We'll be installing seat displays at Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham stations, so head on down and take a seat.
Let us know what you think of them by posting a selfie of you in the seat and tagging us

Newest station on the route and not big enough !.
Where would you place an exhibit about new seats without getting in the way of the actual station activities? Whenever I've been there it's always been really busy, so using some of the circulating space isn't really possible

Plus, the station effectively became smaller for the midland mainline services when most of the space was transferred to HS1 (eurostar/Southeastern) services

TBF, the bums you'll want on those seats mostly come from Derby, Sheffield and Nottingham anyway. Impress those stakeholders, and you're away.

In which case they need to try and fill the trains going against the Derby, Sheffield and Nottingham bums' flow with bums from London - or there no bums in London ?.

Pretty much. People only really commute into London, living elsewhere, rather than living in London and commuting outside. The only people who work outside of London, live near to where they work.

I am surprised Honestly that Leicester won’t get this seat trial. Pretty major Station on that route and plenty of space on concourse.

Is it at all possible that EMR are planning to do so at Leicester and St Pancras, maybe even Kettering, in due course? It might just be a case of limited resources to do it at all the stations at the same time. I have no evidence of that, just a passing thought.

I concur with those who suggested St Pancras is a bit limited for space to do such a thing, it's a busy place and taking up space for a seat trial would not go down too well!

I suspect it might also help that Derby, Sheffield, and Nottingham are all stations managed by EMR.

Surely by now Hitachi have ordered the seats and are installing them so other than a bit of PR for EMR they aren't going to change them

No doubt, but my primary point was more that it could simply be part of EMR's publicity plan to do the demo at the stations listed, then at others at a later date due to a limited amount of spare staff to cover all the main stations in one day.

Whatever the seats are like, I'm still looking forward to the new trains. I won't be available for these demos, although I'd certainly not mind trying them out.
