Just from pictures (disclaimer : have not ridden one yet, will ride a TPE in a few weeks), the interior looks austere for a 1st tier service with 4+h runtime on some, it looks like a metro stock. So I can understand the outside hate.

Comparing with what was on offer basically anywhere else in the 2010s elsewhere is, from an interior look and feel-only standpoint is night and day.
Indeed. I'll be unequivocal on this: they are appalling. An absolute disgrace of a train that is not fit for purpose.

I do not - never will - understand why people may think otherwise. Go and compare with current long distance stock elsewhere, such as ÖBB's new RailJets, ČD's new ComfortJets or DB's ICE3neo fleet. They all make the 80x fleet look an utter embarrassment.

I never mentioned freight wagons… old train vs modern… I don’t know anything about those

Then you clearly aren’t what the seats were designed for most people would be just fine
Excuse me, I didn't realise the seats were only designed for a specific type of person. The problem is that as they age the padding wears out causing the problem. If you get one with good padding, as you seem to have, they will be OK.

The seats are not uncomfy though.. People say that with no evidence

What sort of "evidence" are you looking for? I think they are crap. Quite a few others on here clearly also think they are crap. I've heard people who aren't railway anoraks say that they think they are crap.

If you want to think they are the best seats ever then do go ahead - but afraid you aren't going to succeed in browbeating everyone into agreeing with you!

Before this thread inevitably gets closed down I just want to say that I never thought I'd have the chance to see an actual example of the Principle Skinner meme questioning whether he's out of touch before concluding that it's actually everyone else who is wrong.

The bar is always there, you can see it by turning the seat cushions over.

Umm … that’s meant to be the bar everyone is complaining about, well I thought it would be a lot thinner.. It doesn’t look uncomfortable at all unless your overweight maybe it might be uncomfy since it’s not even if anything it just looks more like it’s ergonomic

There is nothing comfortable or ergonomic about a piece of cloth covering a piece of metal. Not how it works.

and it’s still comfortable … mind you it’s not a sofa
But, as you have already been told many times, a lot of people find sitting on a metal bar to very uncomfortable.
