There is a nice DfT and EU approved derogation banning all no CR stock to stop all crayon based activities.Could an IET run through the Crossrail tunnels? Would it fit/be possible (although not probable!)?
What if it took a really long run up..?There is a nice DfT and EU approved derogation banning all no CR stock to stop all crayon based activities.
The platform height is 1100mm (level) with mininal gap so there would probably be much scraping...

Could call it 'dynamic regauging' or something to sell the concept
No - unfortunately the forum requires more than 5 character responses! So it won’t fit?
Why would anybody want it to?Could an IET run through the Crossrail tunnels? Would it fit/be possible (although not probable!)?
It seems that posters spend a lot of time dreaming up pointless subjects for threads. Maybe they just want to get their post total up.Just to reiterate (post #3) that even if another typical class of ‘short vehicle’ fitted the structure gauge, it still wouldn’t match up with the platform doors designed specifically for 345s with 3 sets of doors per 22m carriage.
So there’s a good reason why no-one else but Crossrail will ever use those tunnels. I can’t believe it still gets suggested after all these years...
See my suggestion above, in that case!I was more interested in whether a non stopping service could make it through the tunnels and out the other side for an intercity journey rather than stopping at crossrail stations

And others achieve it by replying! I see you are up to 5,827.It seems that posters spend a lot of time dreaming up pointless subjects for threads. Maybe they just want to get their post total up.

Perhaps you could identify any pointless threads that I have started then. And others achieve it by replying! I see you are up to 5,827.![]()
And how would you gauge between which questions are genuine and which questions are 'pointless subjects'?It seems that posters spend a lot of time dreaming up pointless subjects for threads. Maybe they just want to get their post total up.
No, because the majority of people don’t cross London, and those that do don’t want to travel in and then out to the same “opposite” destination. This idea has come up a few times before in the forums, and it hasn’t ever really gained any support.Excluding Crossrail for a moment - assuming a number of Intercity tunnels were built under London with entry points outside the M25, would that make a significant improvement to travelling in and out and through London, instead of relying on Victorian terminus stations built on what was the green-belt of outer London at the time, and freeing up local lines for commuter services (thinking of Waterloo, Victoria, and London Bridge specifically).
(E.g Bristol - Southend, Newcastle - Brighton, Manchester to Dover, Norwich - Southampton, and assuming infrastructure standardisation is implemented).
I for one would be very happy if my GWR IET called at Liverpool St/Moorgate and Canary Wharf.
Human Rights Agreement?Similarly, would there be anything preventing a 345 from running from, say, Norwich to Bristol or Cardiff (once the electrification is complete)?

There isn’t room to build all the additional interchange station capacity you’d need where your proposed lines would cross. The vast majority of passengers would still need to change.
Yes. Signalling. I don't think the GWML beyond Reading is ECML equipped.Similarly, would there be anything preventing a 345 from running from, say, Norwich to Bristol or Cardiff (once the electrification is complete)?
