Any idea when the LNWR 730s will enter service?
Did it definitely have 2+2 seating? It wasn't quite clear from the youtube video.I happened to be passing Crewe today and took the opportunity to take a glimpse of the interior of 202. It appears that the unit still has first class seating inside (there’s literally a partition wall inside, I’m not just basing this off of the vinyls). Does this mean that the 730/2s will enter service with first class, just declassified, or does it foreshadow the return of first class on LNR?
I wasn’t able to get a good enough glimpse to see if it still has first class seating, but the partition was definitely inside. If it doesn’t have first class seating, could this potentially be a quiet zone of some sort?
Probably late 2024 or early 2025.Any idea when the LNWR 730s will enter service?
They have got to enter service earlier than that as 17 WMT 323s are planned to Northern but the middle of next year.Probably late 2024 or early 2025.
That only depends on the 730/0s entering service on the Cross City, the person you are replying to is talking about the LNWR ones, not the WMR ones. They have got to enter service earlier than that as 17 WMT 323s are planned to Northern but the middle of next year.
My bad I thought the 730/0s could only move to the Cross City line once the LNWR ones had entered service to allow the 730/0s to be replaced on London services. That only depends on the 730/0s entering service on the Cross City, the person you are replying to is talking about the LNWR ones, not the WMR ones.
There will be a maximum of 10 units allocated to Bletchley at any one time. Units from the fleet of 48 can move in and out of that 10, but the requirement for the southern end of the WCML is 8 units in service plus two spares. There are only a few 319 diagrams. Either 6 or 8 units if I recall.
100% 2+2 seating having been close enough to it to see todayDid it definitely have 2+2 seating? It wasn't quite clear from the youtube video.
Yes, 2+2 seating and first class, which is also 2+2, though is apparently going to be removed.Did it definitely have 2+2 seating? It wasn't quite clear from the youtube video.
This morning they were 730.010, 011 and 016Can anybody inform me what the three 730salongside the main line in Bletchley Yard are please?
Many thanks for your reply. This morning they were 730.010, 011 and 016
Passed an LNWR 730 at Crewe this morning, the livery looks brighter than on the 350s, the base colour looked the be more white than silver as used on the 350s.
It's also that the elements of the livery are proportioned based on the height of the bodyside rather than the width, which means on a 24m bodyshell there are more gaps between them. On a 350 the livery looks a bit crowded, whereas on a 730 it seems to look quite good - I suspect the design was proportioned for a 24m vehicle.
It is indeed, because the base white and green carriage ends were painted on, with the other parts of the livery being vinyl, while it's all metallic vinyl on the 350s (which is starting to look a tad shoddy, with bits of yellow on the front becoming visible, especially around the headlights).Passed an LNWR 730 at Crewe this morning, the livery looks brighter than on the 350s, the base colour looked the be more white than silver as used on the 350s.
Something special has turned up
730202 arrives into Wolverhampton after a test run from Liverpool Lime Street #Class730
That must be what I passed near Edge Hill about noon today (31 August)It is indeed, because the base white and green carriage ends were painted on, with the other parts of the livery being vinyl, while it's all metallic vinyl on the 350s (which is starting to look a tad shoddy, with bits of yellow on the front becoming visible, especially around the headlights).

There were 4x730/0s at Crewe carriage sheds yesterday.Passed an LNWR 730 at Crewe this morning, the livery looks brighter than on the 350s, the base colour looked the be more white than silver as used on the 350s.
Indeed, looks terrible up close! Very noticeable on the 2nd 2 in particularNotice the numbers uses to renumer set 202 are larger than those on build so look slightly odd.
No, the 730/2s will have tables and armrests AFAIK, they are being used on some of WMTs longest services. The 730/0s for WMR commuter services do not have armrests, though the seats on these are relatively wide.Has the removal of seat 3 been a simple chop-off, with no 1"-2" spacer put inbetween the remaining seats? Couldn't see one the other day, and seats 1 & 2 look totally flush.
Possibly will end up like Merseyrail's awful newtrainstramsabominations where many of the passengers on the outside seat overhang the aisle.
On 15th August the line up was 02, 16, 21 and 22, if that helps any? There were 4x730/0s at Crewe carriage sheds yesterday.
I think 3 were 02, 13, and 22 but does anyone know the 4th which was at the London end?
Many thanks. On 15th August the line up was 02, 16, 21 and 22, if that helps any?
Can't remember the new balance of the order but the /1 subclass has been dropped, so once fully in service all /0 will be WMR Cross City and Wolves/Walsall, and the /2 will be Crewe/Euston. Some may find themselves on the Liverpool/New St as that service is going back to 2tph in December so could benefit from the increase in capacity. Can anyone confirm the plans for the non 730/0 please ?
As I initially understood it WMR / LNR were having 35 x 3 car 730/0, the balance being some 730/1 and 730/2. The /0s were principally for Birmingham Cross City and West Mids work, and the /1s and /2s were effectively replacements for 350/2s and 319s, plus a margin of more seats to "grow the business".
Delays to the Aventra build programme have seen a delay to the replacement of the 319s. so it seems the 730/0s have been prioritised around training the ex Silverlink crews on class 730 by using the 730/0s shuttling from and to Oxley.
AFAIK the 730/0 build has been increased from 35 x 3 cars to 48 x 3 cars. So assuming that 730036-730048 are actually 730/1s or 730/2s than theoretically means 26 less intermediate cars to reduce the 5 car units to 3 cars, but were they going to be /1s or /2s ?
From what I have read, 730102 stored at Crewe sesm to have been renumbered 730202, so I am guessing WMR / LNR are keeping ther 730/2 subclass, so does that mean 730/1 have given up their order to make the extra 730/0s ?
Many thanks for any explanation
The new balance is 48x730/0 and 36x730/2. The original was 36x730/0, 29x730/1 and 16x730/2.Can't remember the new balance of the order but the /1 subclass has been dropped, so once fully in service all /0 will be WMR Cross City and Wolves/Walsall, and the /2 will be Crewe/Euston. As far as training goes, yes it's Bletchley crew first. Driver instructors at Crewe have also been trained as they sign Wolves/Walsall as well as WCML north of Rugby, not sure where New St is at with their training.
So less carriages (324 vs 333) but more units (84 vs 81).The new balance is 48x730/0 and 36x730/2. The original was 36x730/0, 29x730/1 and 16x730/2.
