Class 70 arrivals or etas

I thought I would start a thread for people to indicate the expected time of arrival for each delivery of 70s as they get built or depart the USA.

The reason I am doing this is because it seems they may well now arrive one at a time via Liverpool and it would be nice to have ONE thread to look in for the latest etas.

Keep it on topic and perhaps make a separate thread for workings etc once delivered.

70018 due Liverpool docks on about 19/01/2012. Ship is Atlantic Cartier.

Reported as being just 70018 on its own, just as 70017 arrived on its own.

As they're being delivered on a regular service rather than a special charter, I'd guess that they're able to be dispatched as and when they're ready- in fact, the availability of the trailers used is a limiting factor.

Yes Jopsuk that is exactly how I see it, now coming in dribs and drabs. The point of Liverpool is it probably has a regular roll on roll off service from the USA port. But I did not know there was also a limit on trailers (makes sense as they are a bit special I suspect) which adds weight to the theory. Mind you must be two trailers as trailer for 017 wont have got back to USA for 018 in time.

There's a bit about it in this week's Railway Herald. ACS run several regular transatlantic routes; the one into Liverpool arrives Tuesdays (and onwards to the continent), the return sailing arrives Friday evening and departs Saturday morning. The ships are combined Container/RORO, and the trailers were built to ship locomotives in the opposite direction (possibly the Bombardier ALP locos for New Jersey?) This is the company's site.

Much safer than craning on and off!

I would have thought GE would have completed all 30 by now,I hope there are more on the way very soon,never seen a 70,but they sound impressive from what YouTube footage I have seen.Does this signal the end for UK 66's seing as Freightliner and DRS are getting new loco's? Who will be next?

There's about 440-ish 66s in the UK.

They're not really in danger. What's in danger is the "revenue heritage" fleets- 37s, 47s, 20s, 57s and 60s.

Always loved the 37's! Do like the 60's but have read elsewhere on this forum that they are being refurbished and brought back into revenue earning service,,about time too! We've that many 66's?!! So,if that is the case,what was the need for 70's and the Eurolight? Was it either to compliment or replace 66's? And who would end up with our 66's?

The 70s are more powerful than the 66s aren't they? Whilst the DRS Eurolights are about getting a lighter loco than the 66. The likes of Freightliner and DBS would cheerfully have a single class 9single sub class at that) of loco if it could do everything.

66s are used internationally- both FL and DBS have taken some of their UK fleet overseas (and then returned them, depending upon demand- so some of them have full UIC identification panels because of this. Various other operators in Europe own them too, and they're in use in Egypt- it's a very successful design.

11 - you forget that we do not have 70012 yet.

Got a rumor that the last 10 of the 30 wont get built. Anyone else got more of a FACT. I think there was to be a pause after the first 12 for bedding in and modification finding.

So that means 70019 and 70020 might be the last. Wonder about the replacement 70012 though.

I went out to Erie to work on the first 5 loco's, I did a training course for their test engineers on TPWS. interesting time it was, I've a few photo's of them in their grey (or should that be gray) primer if anyone's interested, or if someone wants to point me to a thread where it's a little more appropriate.

Is this the original 70012 repaired or a relacement with the same number recycled?

Correct me if I am wrong about the replacememnt for the barely delivered 70012. We do not know that the replacement will be numbered 70012. We cannot even be sure there is to be a replacement.

Does anyone KNOW any more ?.

Looks like 70019 & 70020 will be intermodal and are first going to York !.
