Class 56 tour December 29th

Just hope the grid doesn't suffer any wheelflats tomorrow, otherwise it'll be game over until a new set of wheels can be procured...as I'm sure FusionRail will be well aware being the chief engineer for the fleet.

Wonder if 56128 will be getting new wheels as part of its 'overhaul', just like 057/003 did...

And no, I can't be bothered to go down to Shrewsbury for the return, it'll be in on 7 and right up to the pegs.

No. Wasn't the choc/cream set. It was a mix of EWS maroon Mk1s, Riviera blue and white Mk2a's (the ones with the ladies names) and Pride of the Nation Mk1s for dining. Same set for the 40 tour this weekend apparently if anyone is interested.

Thanks to Pathfinder, EWS, Riviera and Hanson for a great day yesterday. The reason for the late start was the signaller at Derby kept directing 2,3 and 5 car trains in to platforms 1, 2 and 3 (the only ones able to accomodate a train that size at the moment), instead of 4 or 6. So it was put down as 'severe congestion' rather than 'forgetful bobby'

Loads of slack in the timetable though, so by the time we were at Wen we were about 5 early. It had to be some of the biggest mixed bag of stock I have ever seen though!

Oh, and the tour was NOT cold turkey, as there was a genny van lovely and warm in the mk1s especially. Got back to Derby on time at 2240 last night, where the grid was detached, then the 67 took the stock out east (on the way back the locos were TnT as opposed to DH).

And it wasn't 56312 with wheelflats, it was the mk2s

It's not, its a loco! However No. 35469 is a brake genny van and was in the formation. Looked to be sporting a new livery, was on the back of Compass's Wolves - York back in April (37401 & 405) keeping us nice and warm while sporting a weathered maroon paint job but now looks good in a fresh coat of blood & custard!

35469 was it for the genny van? I swear I noted it as 80035! Must re-check my tape later!

Never even heard of that mate, sure its 35469 from the pictures i've seen though, if anyone knows it wasn't correct me as i wasn't there but definatly looks like it.

Old Oak - Derby & rtn ECS move + Hansons machines weren't exactly the most reliable for a time were they? They do seem a lot more reliable now though but as TOC I doubt EWS would want to risk it as if there was a problem I presume it would be them that would pick the bill up?

Almost certainly was 35469, I don't do tours much at all so I don't know the stock too well. Was half-asleep when I noted the number at Salop so probably made an error. Hopefully the stock's getting listed on Six Bells Junction, I didn't note all of the stock!

Dunno, can't see the point of sending it back to OC tbh as its needed in Lancs next Sat, would have thought it would be easier to send it to Crewe for cleaning and then on to the ELR, dunno though?!

Makes perfect sense does that, which is why it'll go back to OC

Why was there a need for the 67 then?

I was glad it was on there - the chances of the 56 failing were quite likely, so the skip was a good backup plan, though it did give the 56 another 100 or so tonnes to deal with and as it was on the back on return, no need to fart about with shunting, driver got in it and towed the stock out again and the 56 went off on its own.
