Class 52 western?

I have today been in loft for old pictures and found one of D1023 at Crewe TMD Open Day from October 12th 1991,it cost me £1.50 to get in. Wow that's a long time ago now.

Whereabouts are you based Ladder23?
I'm not completely sure about this but I think the current status of the class is (and I'm ready to be corrected here):

D1010: At the West Somerset - a bit tatty, but useable and working on both engines I think? Doesn't seem to see a huge amount of work at the moment.
Edit - As pointed out by Theblackwatch, suffered a transmission failure last year so currently out of action.
D1013: Under overhaul at the Severn Valley.
D1015: Based at the Severn Valley and slowly on the comeback after one engine failed on the mainline a few years ago. Hopefully it'll be back to its best soon. Has been used on the SVR on one engine over the past couple of years. But problems have been found with that (the 'A' engine) too. Meaning that it'll need rebuilding after the new B engine has been built up from a short block and refitted.
D1023: At the NRM York, static display only these days.
D1041: East Lancs - undergoing a thorough overhaul I think?
D1048: Butterly - Very long term overhaul. Must be so many people that need this machine now!
D1062: The Severn Valley. Is this the only one that's running on two engines and working regular services at the moment? It had a repaint into BR blue a couple of years ago and looked and sounded excellent when I last went behind it.
It's listed as working during the 2019 SVR diesel gala. It may well be booked for other diesel diagrams though the year.

Any further information on the above would be appreciated.

I would have said the best bet is NRM for seeing one.
Seeing one in action is a whole different kettle of fish.

I think you're thinking of the prototype 'Deltic'.

Because pioneer 'Western' D1000 "Western Enterprise" was cut up at Swindon during 1974.

is it me or with a bit of imagination could that almost pass for Cardiff Canton, Plymouth Laira, Newton Abbot or similar depots back in the 60s?

I have donated to the odd scheme at times though HB and I actually looked into it last year.
I couldn't work out who owned it though?

I think chromatic blue has only ever existed in the minds of those who don't take into account the fallibility of colour film. It's become one of those railway myths that never completely goes away. Hence my use of 'wibble'

There's an interesting test that can be done...
Like you say - the colour film of the time can show up a different shade of blue from the actual reality. But if you visually cover (a photo or model of) the front end of a loco with small yellow panels with your hand or something similar. and just look at the bodyside. Then it seems to always look like just the standard BR blue.

Not going to pretend that I understand exactly how the wavelength of certain colours affects others... but I can see your point.
