I'm coming at this from a position of ignorance, but doesn't that defeat the object of an emergency coupler?
If a stricken train can't be recovered until a fitter arrives I'd imagine the delays would mount up pretty quick, especially on 'your patch'.
I am quite strong and I tried to lift one of the big pieces and I couldnt, it weighed a ton, it might be a lightweight coupling but it certainly isnt lightweight.
Our trains have sand bags which are put onto the ballast for the coupling to be dropped onto from the gangway door so they dont get damaged, once they are on the bags it would take 3 (probably 4) people to get it into position on the train, it is not a practical solution for train crew to fit them but was felt necessary when the trains were new, nowadays with compatible stock (normally) close by they are pretty much superfluous.
no problem badassunicorn, crossed wires I think.
Blimey we are way off topic on this one!
