Once the 707s are delivered, commissioned and crews trained. So not for another year probably.

I'm not looking forward to getting those scruffy old heaps back for my daily commute.

Still, they've got to do the platform extensions and power supply and there's no sign of any of that happening yet.

Presumably they will return to the Reading line with the doors to first class restored but without the seats being put back to 3+2 to accommodate the Twickenham / Richmond crowd.

The latest CP5 enhancements plan draft (post Hendy) has the platform extension work taking place April 2016 - May 2017, but the power supply work is reported to have started last year and also completes in May 2017.

The power enhancements may not be very noticeable if going on within existing buildings.

Ah yes, I've read it now. Is that what all the cabling work is about between Wokingham and Feltham, or is that part of the Feltham resignalling scheme?

Nope. That's a separate thing.

I think you'll find that the integration of Woking or Eastleigh is likely to happen before that as they're next door, closely followed by Guildford and Portsmouth direct and the lines that radiate from there. But that could change.

However, the Feltham scheme is taking place in CP5. It's needed to provide closer signalling and extra turnbacks for additional services. This issue of Modern Railways reports that it was due to be commissioned next year, but may not be fully complete until 2019. All that suggests it's ahead of the other areas.

Can I remind people that this is a Class 458 thread - if you want to discuss Feltham box etc, please do so on another thread.

We appear to be just the one 458 down this evening :) I'm currently enjoying the 150% increase that the 1722 Waterloo to Weybridge (458503+458515) got in December (from 4 coaches to 10) :D. Even at the busiest point (Clapham Junction to Wandsworth Town) there was still a lot of room in Coach 6 of 10, with free seats at other times. It used to be one to avoid between Waterloo and Putney when it still had the single 450 unit. Shame that doors in Coach 6 (67615) didn't open at Vauxhall.

There are 5 cars running to Reading every day now in the peak/late.

1935 Waterloo-Reading, which is an additional service added in December, is booked for a 458. It goes back ECS to Clapham Yard from memory.

Where any 458/5's being used on any services today as they seemed to be a lot of them both in Wimbledon depot, Clapham Yard and also within what looked like a stabling area between Kingston and Wimbledon.

Usually on a Sunday they only run 5 cars on Woking via Staines services.

Windsor services should be 10-car 458/5s on a Sunday too. Still doesn't need that many units. That would have been Strawberry Hill Depot where you saw units stabled.

Thanks Tew, I thought it was Strawberry Hill but was not sure.

What I want to know is why have several Windsor diagrams that were 458/5 have now reverted back to 450 units?

How do you know what the diagrams should be? There are still a few trains to be reintroduced into service, so there must be 450s on some 458 diagrams somewhere. They may have prioritised other routes for ten car, the Windsor service itself isn't guaranteed specific trains.

Any thoughts on whether 458/5's are likely to visit Bournemouth depot for any reason - I only ask because if any have already visited I have missed them?

Knowing my lack of perception there have probably been many and I have missed them all. :( :D

MatthewRead's point is that prior to the December timetable Windsor was 100% 458 on weekdays, so it clearly was prioritised contrary to your assertion.

8531 is there now. It is having a C4 overhaul. It's the first one.

506/512/513/514/515/521/522/523/534 were definitely done at Wabtec, there may be one or two more but the balance will be done at Bournemouth

I don't think you have missed much over the last couple of years, as the 458/5 conversion process was done at Doncaster. There was some initial testing of 458/5s based there and towards Weymouth, but in hindsight that may have just been testing regenerative braking under controlled conditions, most subsequent trains were tested in the Reading - Staines area. (The previous poster has explained that there is now a bogie overhaul (C4) in progress, and that will now result in more 458/5s back and forth.)

What I was thinking of is that they have introduced new workings and strengthening elsewhere since the December timetable in anticipation of having more units in use, so we are in another transition towards the full timetable.

EG if there are now 10.458s running from Woking where they didn't before, that sort of thing.
