I had heard about it and the 7454 fault but haven't really had so many problems till this weekend oh and perhaps another day where it happened 5 times on one trip...I have stopped at green signals before for some reason like I've been instructed to stop there irrelevant of signal aspect.Didn't I have a defective radio a few years back so I was just thinking there may be a possibility of stopping at a signal other then at red for a different reason.Anyway I noticed you basically said that at the start of your last post which I read through.Must have missed the notice when I was looking at all the other 459 and 456 stuff. As I say though I knew about the 7454 fault.Oh yeah spurious brake applications with the probs I've had recently it's quite possible as I said other than a red.

Yes I do read my notices but thanks anyway.

The 7454 code is the fault code which is generated by the guard leaving their key on causing the auto fault announcements...

Stopping at a green regardless of aspect is essentially treating it as a danger aspect, as for spurious brake applications I wasn't including every eventuality for reasons to stop the train. Shall I list them all? I was purely listing the 99% cause of the auto fault announcement which is preventable by not having a lazy guard.

Another fault this morning as the 07:02 from Weybridge had a fault with the brakes (according to the guard - I'm sure it is a little more complicated) - everyone thrown off at Barnes Bridge after a half hour delay :(

I wonder if guards who talk less to passengers are likely to be the ones leaving the key in the door and being lazy.

Anyway I know who why a door fault announcement was played last Friday evening whilst held up outside Woking station so my connecting train could depart first.

Not really after an argument but as I said I have had this problem as well as others recently and they aren't in the notices.I don't really blame guards either as it's common practice that is done on other units also.

No, it's not!

7454 is occurs when a train has been split/reformed. It's looking for a ASBO beacon and it doesn't clear until it finds one, once it finds one it should clear it, if it doesn't then you call phone a fiend and work to their instructions.

I know this as I've had the fault on several occasions and now I take no notice of it, if it occurs after an attachment or detachment, unless it still occurs after the train has approached its first station (it doesn't matter whether it's calling or not).

So if you're traincrew, read your notices!

I thought the 1652 Waterloo to Weybridge was booked 5 coaches?

16:52 back to being booked 5 coaches today, assuming it wasn't dud gen in the first place on SWT's own website last week? In practice it is a 4-car again today;

16:52 London Waterloo to Weybridge due 18:10 Will be formed of 4 coaches instead of 5.
This is due to a train fault. Last Updated :18/01/2016 09:53

15:23 Windsor & Eton Riverside to London Waterloo due 16:19 Will be formed of 5 coaches instead of 10.
This is due to a train fault. Last Updated :18/01/2016 12:32

14:23 Windsor & Eton Riverside to London Waterloo due 15:19 This train will be started from Twickenham. Will be formed of 5 coaches instead of 10.
15:28 London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside due 16:22 Will be formed of 5 coaches instead of 10.

The 1737 Waterloo to Hounslow is now cancelled as well

EDIT: Determined to be out of date
Their Spring 2015 update suggests that the 1652 is booked 5 cars. It also mentions that there to be 15 pairs of 458 units, so 2 units operate singly. As the new 1935 to Reading is expected to be 5 cars, another service must be 5 cars too in order to keep within the requirement of 32 units in service. It also leaves one of the five Windsor unit-pairs as another type of unit (450s are used on the 1828).

I suspect that information is a bit out of date. All 5 Windsor diagrams on a Weekday will be 458/5s eventually. The 1935 Waterloo-Reading is formed from one unit working the 1745 Hounslow Loop service, so it's still a 10-car for the busiest peak service. The 1622 Waterloo-Weybridge and 1652 Waterloo-Weybridge are the 2 single units in the evening peak. They work as pairs for the morning peak, and split after that, working alone for the rest of the day. In the morning peak it's the 0652 Waterloo-Weybridge and 0722 Waterloo-Weybridge that are single units, with both units joining with others for the evening peak.

Thanks for the updated info :) really shouldn't have been using out of date info, apologies!

There are many different reasons why the tms of a desiro will show the fault code 7454. I purely listed the most commonly occurring occasion which produces the auto announcer that the passengers would encounter. I shall be quiet in future as I have been suitably chastised for not listing every occasion and eventuality that could potentially arise.

Obviously my tongue in cheek comment about notice reading was too much. We all know how most crew treat the notice cases...
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Anyway. Back to the original topic of a 458/5. Bloody things with their door faults tonight... Tuts.

There are three class 458/5 vehicles at Stonebridge park; am I correct in thinking these are the three vehicles from 458 501 which are not either on loan or away for repair?

Still at least three sets down today. Luckily the 11:03 Weybridge is booked 450 so at least that one is OK;

09:33 Weybridge to London Waterloo due 10:56 Will be formed of 5 coaches instead of 10.

A certain Reading last night was a ten car loaded up as I went down to split it...Thought it was a bit weird. The actual proper train for the service was on another platform.

If it's late I don't think it would matter if a 10 car went down there, it's during the day when there's a greater demand on the power grid, that it would cause trippings.

Yeah but unfortunately it was wrongly advertised meaning we had to detrain passengers.Even checked with the driver who bought it in and it was the train I was after so I wondered what the hell was going on.Perhaps I didn't read my notices yet again or the guard left his key on.<sic>

Driver was sitting there in cab so had to tell him his train was on another platform.Couldn't set radio up so signalman knew and had 450 on his diagram.Has a ten car ever worked a passenger service down there? I know they generally change stock but it's the other way round.Correct eight car desiro was on another platform.Still the passengers made no fuss.Good on them.:)

It won't be, being an unsupervised depot, it dropped out of the fax machine for posting in the LNC, but it was photocopied before it was posted in there and pinned up "unofficially" in the messroom for reference.

Four fifths of 8501 are at Wembley. The most damaged vehicle is probably inside as it apparently needs structural repairs to the under frame. Hence why you saw three

Ah... I thought the damaged one had gone back to Doncaster.

Does this mean that Alstom have a repair facility in the Wembley area, or was it just a convenient place to split up the unit? I thought the whole of 458501 did originally go back to Wabtec though.

Slighty off topic: General reliablity on SWT has been awful since the New Year. I have been on 4 trains that developed door faults, to be fair to the 458s, 3 of them were 450s

Yup.I've also had a bad time on both 450 and 458/5 since the new year.Worse than usual. Not blaming anyone, just the way it goes I guess.

The carriages I saw are outside their Stonebridge Park facility along with a few Sleeper vehicles.

The Pendo depot is an Alstom facility. As Wabtec were the subcontractor to Alstom perhaps they decided to undertake the rectification, themselves and miss Wabtec out. I've heard it's a massive job, Alstom will probably have the best chance in regards the burnt wiring as they will have all the schematics and knowledge.
