They have a replacement spares donor, in the form of 43030. I believe 185s future has now been chosen, but taking it to Brodie’s will allow them & ScotRail to remove any further components Haymarket wasn’t able to remove.

43082 and two others are moving to the Colne Valley railway to join the 3 HST MK3’s that are already there.

Neither will be popular for further use if those uses can't be identified. The owners of the power cars have had long enough to exhaust the list of willing users now regardless of the engines fitted.

I can't say I'm surprised, those two were stripped for spares before they left Neville Hill. There isn't much left inside them!

It seems to vary between Lessor - Porterbrook seem far more pro-active than Angel in finding further use for it's Power Cars, be it on the mainline or in Preservation, whereas Angel seems to be sitting on them in the hope that someone with some considerably deep pockets turns up tomorrow and asks for a fleet of PCs. At least one of those two knew how to 'Winterise' them correctly and didn't just park them up as well... :s

There will be a few more issues than that. Most of Porterbrook's Power Cars will have been drained of the usual fluids, and had most of the exhaust ports covered over, whereas photos of the ever decrepit lineup of Power Cars at Ely seem to show that none of them have had the exhaust ports covered over - so at a bare minimum they'll be full of water and whatever else!

I've seen a few posts elsewhere mention that these two were well picked for parts, and weren't in the best state to start with. Sadly the first of many, but their time has come.

Probably because there both isn’t, and won’t be much left on them. Porterbrook will be collecting what can be re-used on their other HST fleet from SIMS. And as previously mentioned, both power cars have already had a number of parts removed from them prior to leaving Neville Hill.

Total destruction order seems to be quite a new thing which is mentioned quite frequently these days. Is it an actual order in relation to rolling stock being disposed of or is it just the fact that as it is being scrapped at Sims it gets totally destroyed in the process of scrapping anyway. It’s not as if we are discussing the disposal of top secret military hardware or anything like that! Just the disposal of redundant obsolete rolling stock.

In this case it’s the latter. TFL have for a long time used so called total destruction orders on everything they send for scrap but other than that they’re rarely used.

IIRC DRS have used destruction orders on some of their class 37s in the past

Can't really imagine why there's a need for a total destruction order on a pair of gutted 43s, a bit baffled by that. Particularly as they're in the livery of a defunct operator; odd!

By the sounds of it, "total destruction" can mean anything.
