Once further electrification goes live in December 2018, will there be any more 387 diagrams or is it just that the IEPs will travel further on electric?

Newbury terminating services should go over to 387s in Dec 2018.
After that there's just Oxford (no date yet).
Maidenhead/Reading locals will convert from 387s to Crossrail/Elizabeth line stock (345s) in 2019.

Better than a 2 coach Turbo. I’ve been on one of those many times on that route.
There were several booked ones between the peaks on weekdays, and I found that as long as it was a school day and there was no disruption, there was actually enough capacity. It was rare not to get a seat at Southall towards Paddington, although the Heathrow Connect a few minutes earlier helped :p . Having said that, there wasn't much slack to cover for a cancellation or disruption, so the extra capacity will be useful there.

But I can guarantee that my fellow passengers at Southall still won't use the full length of the train… <( always want to be nearest to the stairs at Southall and Ealing Broadway. Sometimes with evening peak Hayes & Harlington stoppers having unoccupied seats throughout towards the rear, while the front 2 coaches have no room to move.

I went down to Pangbourne to see the first 387 in passenger service on the way to Didcot this afternoon. Nice to see this finally happen, I think the first piling for the electrification in this area was nearly three years ago now...

Same everywhere, some passengers will crowd around the first set of doors and ignore the rest of the train

They seem to have kept it very low key - nothing in GWR's twitter feed.

How many seats does a 4 car 387 have?
I'm onboard one now and it's absolutely packed! Standing room only.
I'm sure a 3 car turbo has more seats.

The figures given in the Combined Volume add up to 223 seats for a 387/1.

A three car 165 seems to have 302 seats and a 166 seems to have 244 seats.

The 387, of course, is in 2+2 layout whereas the Turbos are in 2+3.

Aren't 3 car turbos 5 abreast? That will easily net you 20 extra seats a carriage.

Of course, when Crossrail takes over most (if not all) of the stopping Reading services, people are going to struggle with the mostly longitudinal tube like seating and the corresponding lack of seats.

When the 9 car 345s take over the peak Reading relief services in December '19, there will surely be more 12 car Electrostar formations for the outer suburban services.

RTT is showing half hourly EMUs between Paddington/Didcot all day on Jan 1st, GWR presumably looking to catch any remaining issues before the new timetable launch on the 2nd.

The 1st is the soft launch as it's 'Sunday' service iirc, the 2nd will the be first day in heavy commuter usage.

However a soft launch 24 hours before the actual one doesn't give anyone a lot of time to clear things up :/

It must be a Saturday service tomorrow, as Taplow gets half hourly trains. If a poster on the GW Coffee Shop forum is correct, and GWR can't get enough drivers with traction knowledge for tomorrow and Tuesday, expect Turbos to run in place of Electrostars.

The Turbos have their own diagrams to cover!
