Think 463 is currently being done.401 402 407 410 413 415 418 419 421 430 440 448 450 456 458 are all done. Those are just ones I’ve seen though; I’m fairly certain they’re close to all the /4s being done.
They need to start thinking about having two pools of 377s... metro and coastal. The mix of 2x2 and 3x2 seating in the 2nd batch of units onwards seems pointless. The 2x2 seating in metro area is relative luxury compared to 455s, and epbs before them. .. and of course the argument about first class continues. Disclassify it permanently in metro units, improve it in coastal unitsI presume the screens will be fitted in the 387s too
Ironic the newer 700s are without plug sockets
Interestingly the 377/4s and /5s always had plug sockets in first class as well as a dividing door whereas all older 377s had none. I also like the privacy screen half way down the outer coaches of 377/4s and /5s which was never retrofitted in older batches. Still think the outer coaches are underrated especially when people say how awful southern rail are. Luxurious compared to many units. Still amazed how many people are unaware most 377s have two types of seating in different coaches.
They used to have two pools of 377s. Mixing them allowed extra units to be diagrammed. Trains to the coast need 3+2 seating as much as anywhere. It gives a choice of accommodation. Contrary to what you imply, people don't all sit in the 2+2 seating areas and shun the 3+2 areas. They need to start thinking about having two pools of 377s... metro and coastal. If anything a project to standardise them to all be the same would be good. always filled with dread when a 2+2 throughout unit turns up because you know immediately the chance of getting a seat dropsThey used to have two pools of 377s. I think for longer distance u need the more comfortable seating. Of course a large percentage of people just get on the train and sit on a seat, not many even consider the config of the train... which is convenient for the train company. Metro needs more capacity now that there is less stock. Having one common pool has many plus points but also the odd negative. Pendolinos dont have 3 x2 seating and many people spend less then a 2 hr journey on them. An hour and 3/4 journey to portsmouth for example needs quality accommodation. They used to have two pools of 377s. Mixing them allowed extra units to be diagrammed. There seems to be a perennial question of which is preferable: standing in the aisle, or sitting in a seat crammed in between two other passengers. If anything a project to standardise them to all be the same would be good. always filled with dread when a 2+2 throughout unit turns up because you know immediately the chance of getting a seat drops
Clearly that service needs more carriages or as u say more seatingIf anything a project to standardise them to all be the same would be good. always filled with dread when a 2+2 throughout unit turns up because you know immediately the chance of getting a seat drops
I thought the dft had already made that decisions for future rolling stock that 2x2 seats and more room was the way forwards.... and then the 720s arrivedThere seems to be a perennial question of which is preferable: standing in the aisle, or sitting in a seat crammed in between two other passengers.
I'm honestly not sure what the outcome would be if passengers were surveyed on this.
A bit speculative to say that. The 2+2 units do have more standing room.Metro needs more capacity now that there is less stock.
377/6s and 7s are spot on config wise.A bit speculative to say that. The 2+2 units do have more standing room.
Think 377455 has been done, but 377473/474 have not been doneit’s just 420, 427-429, 437, 442, 443, 455-457, 449, 451, 459, 461, 463-472 and 475? left to do out of the /4s
At least a couple of those in that list have been done.it’s just 420, 427-429, 437, 442, 443, 455-457, 449, 451, 459, 461, 463-472 and 475? left to do out of the /4s
473 and 474 are done according to photos on TrainloggerThink 377455 has been done, but 377473/474 have not been done
472 is now done, saw that at Kenley last night. Interestingly it still has the old darker green Southern logoAt least a couple of those in that list have been done.
At least two 377s still have the older logoLooks like it’s the Great Northern Class 387/1’s that are being done next as 387101 is currently at Selhurst to undergo what is believed to be Project Aurora mods.

What work will actually take place on the 387s? Will it just be the installation of the screens at the carriage ends?Looks like it’s the Great Northern Class 387/1’s that are being done next as 387101 is currently at Selhurst to undergo what is believed to be Project Aurora mods.

There's also a lot of Hardware and Software modifications to the whole Electrostar Fleet to make them all completely compatible in passenger operation. What work will actually take place on the 387s? Will it just be the installation of the screens at the carriage ends?
That’s the plan, yes. The 377/5’s will also be done if they ever return. So will every GTR electrostar go through this?
So these modifications will enable the software on the 377’s to be upgraded to allow them to work with 387’s in passenger service? There's also a lot of Hardware and Software modifications to the whole Electrostar Fleet to make them all completely compatible in passenger operation.
Basically yes. There's passenger environment Modifications as part of the Aurora Project but more importantly to make the Electrostar Fleet Compatible in service (Inc Passenger). Rather than the "tricks" used to work them in ECS Moves. That’s the plan, yes. The 377/5’s will also be done if they ever return.
