I believe there will be at least one 8 car Class 377/2 working from May.

The final plan is two 8 car workings on WLL in peak (one being all day). However all dependent on having enough 377/7 commissioned. Currently none have been commissioned with the knock on effect of not releasing 377/2 for Thameslink which delays 319s to Northern. Hence why there is likely to be nothing publicly about WLL changes currently.

What's the delay with commissioning them do you know? I thought they'd be quicker to do since they already had the experience with the 377/6s?

Mixture of issues with the 377/6 causing knock on effects. The first unit commissioning date was over six weeks ago.

Thanks oh right guess this will mean a delay to the first 319s being released then too

Don't think the 319s will be delayed as there is already a 377/2 with Thameslink and a second is likely once the first 377/7 is commissioned.

Oh good at least the effects won't be too severe then! And at least its not as bad as the 377/5 commissioning which I think lasted forever?

Hi, when looking through these posts, it's difficult to work out what has actually been delivered so far. Can someone put up a summary of delivery status please?

thanks,

Easy to lose track in these threads! So far delivered...

377703 - delivered 11/02/2014
377704 - delivered 13/02/2014
377702 - delivered 24/03/2014
377705 - delivered 08/04/2014

So 377702-377705 have been delivered. 703/704 did a bit of 3rd rail testing in Kent, followed by a bit of OHLE running recently. Then 702/704 went for some OHLE running. Now 702/703 have been out together on AC.

Stewarts Lane is being used to commission the units. Only after Southern have accepting them they go so Selhurst. (703/704 visited Selhurst for testing of the AC equipment there).

I know it will probably never happen but I would love for southern to run to Northampton. :D

They are currently on mileage accumulation between wembley and rugby and do run through Northampton. I can provide times, however, more often than not they are running early!

Saw 377 702 / 703 go sailing past on the Down Fast this morning working 5M53 and noticed that they went via Weedon (booked that way) :o

They're only 100mph capable right?

Yes. The 387 (which Derby should be starting now) are the first 110mph rated Electrostar. The 37x can do 110mph without issue as proven by 379006 last year.

Is there any chance that the 377/7s could work Southern Metro routes?

Yes - definitely, because there are more than are needed for the WLL. In any case the use of some of them on the WLL is known to be only temporary. Once sufficient 377/2 and 377/5 are returned from Thameslink duties they intend to use them to run a full 8 car service on the Croydon - Milton Keynes WLL service, in which case all the 377/7s will then be available for normal use on the rest of the 10 car 'metro' network.

There is also the possibility of the 377/7 serving Brighton as the original May workings had 2x 10 car 377/6 workings on the Victoria - Brighton fasts on Saturdays. The 377/7 will likely turn up on 377/6 diagrams on metro work so may just visit Brighton in service this year.

Once they introduce them that is.

I think there are a few 10 car services to Brighton in the evenings, normally run by 442s, maybe these could become 377/7 operated or part operated come the May timetable change?

Nowadays the Brighton 442 workings are pretty much limited to those which interwork with the Gatwick Express in some way, so wouldn't be suitable for 377/6s.

As the /7s will have first class (southern style - antimacassars, doors, and the stripe outside), I can see them being used more than the /6s on the Brighton runs, or at least that should be the case
