Coming up on the Saturday with my daughter. Have planned tp take a break at Highley around lunchtime for dinner abd do she can visit the park. 1st train we'll likely catch is the 0900 although as its 501 im wondering if we should try to get to Kidderminster earlier to get the 0820

Got a 3 day rover to do Thursday - Saturday, possibly lineside Sunday but depending on how wet it is. Booked a house right by Highley station which is a handy base!

I was in the understanding 501's limited runs was crew reasons but that's what I heard elsewhere

Interesting to see how busy it is, of course those that do specific types like Sulzers wont be there, but there is a following for 37s so I'd imagine it will be fairly busy. Like some, I'm just there for the thrash, any loco will do, will do all of them spread over the days, looking forward to 901 too still haven't heard that in the flesh

Last time I had slug 1 was on the valley around 17 years ago when 906 was there also. You won't be disappointed with 901

First train has departed Kidderminster and they’re already delayed! 10 minutes in this case.

Driver's certainly giving the locos a good thrashing leaving Kidderminster this morning. Looking busy for a Thursday. Looking forward to going Saturday.

I went today and it wasn't particularly busy I have to say. Plenty of seats available on all the trains. It was a good day. I think majority of it ran to time. 37501/423 not active today. I went on all 8 active 37s so got all that were out.

Interesting I've noticed a class 20 out over the weekend to cover for a 37.

Good first day, 37510 looks goid with matching dark maroon full rake

Timekeeping no more than 10 minutes late, even then things appeared to return back on time

37264 is absolutely hellfire worth a run on that!

You mean 37518*

37263 was the best of the bunch yesterday. Hellfire thrash all day long.

Sorry 518 yes, typo as noted 510 in notes for some reason!

Haven't done 263 yet so will have to sample that, 264 still good today, enjoyed 901, which only had bits of thrash here and there, some comment from someone I heard was 'Only good thing going for the horn, the rest is .... don't know why anyone wasted time preserving them'

Sounds like the 'I dont like them so no one else should' brigade...

901 isn’t preserved it’s owned and operated by a commercial mainline entity.

37901 sounds like a class 50.... (runs and hides for cover ;))
Actually Jacob, it is a bit like an unrefurbished 50 (or a 31) in taking a long time to wind itself up into life but only old farts like me will remember those droning ‘hoover’ days. The first refurb, 50006, was much more like a 37 or 40 in running up quickly.

A certain well known driver quoted 32 seconds to get full power on 901, hence the ‘slug’ nickname.

Currently an entertaining and light-hearted discussion on a facebook group as to whether 10 x 37s is a more boring lineup than the 5x 4MT 2-4-6Ts from an event in 1997 (I rhink)

As someone who is predominantly a fan of steam, I'd take the 37s over the most boring steam locos ever to exist, any day!

i thought it was a great day out - my first visit to the SVR. It's a long way for a day trip but 10 37s was enough to tip the balance. I also recommend the Diesel Depot tour - they have a lot of others there!

37688 `Great Rocks` was my pick of the bunch yesterday

+1 for 264

Did anyone manage the advertised cab visit in 501 on Thursday or on Friday morning?
