No, the only announcement on a non-refurb set would be when the guard activates the unit de select switch there will be an announcement in the rear 4 coaches to 'move forward from this part of the train'
Ah, thanks.

It’s a shame they don’t replace the current grating Julie Berry announcements when refurbishing the trains. They’re absolutely awful. A pity, because her Southern work is good. I don’t care how well they refurbish it, after five stops with consecutive “step onto the platform before removing heavy luggage and push chairs” I want to get off.

Is it actually the same woman as "Sathern"? Doesn't at all sound like - most odd!

It does grate, but I assume there had been a spate of accidents involving babies being tipped down the gap or onto the platform by people not doing so.

I haven't been keeping up with the refurbishment, so may I ask whether the old dot-matrix are still there?

Still there and working as normal. Not sure whether the new system is able to work alongside the old one yet?

I think the announcements is fine, definitely better than tpe announcements on 350/4 units. Awful

The Long Marston run was cancelled yesterday again for some reason so 106 is still up there I believe. Probably will be next Saturday now before comes back.
Wouldnt be suprised if the very slow speed is down to holidays at this time of year, hopefully itll pick up once the kids are back at school.

Not sure which unit but been sent a picture of a refurb 350 in service earlier at Crewe.
Agree with other comments that the blue panels should be swapped due to clashing. Also surprised that the pale blue areas were not repainted to grey or green. GWR repainted all blue/purple panels to grey in their refurbishments across all stock types.

The new seat coverings do not look as comfortable as the existing London Midland moquette.

The /1s never had London Midland Moquette and the vast majority were far from comfortable as they had collapsed particularly round tables. Some were replaced a couple of years ago like for like and where the 2 were side by side it showed up just how much they collapsed as the new ones were about twice as thick.

Are the seat cushion covers and seat headrests areas covered in a 'ribbed' moquette? Looks like it from the photos. Wonder if ribbed stands wear for longer?

GWR have a ribbed effect cover on some of their refurbished class 158 seats.

If the refurb is anything like that of the WMR Class 323s/172s then yes, it will be a ribbed moquette.

Isn't it just a different moquette, presumably with new squab cushions?
Its a shame the green pattern doesn’t extend downwards onto the cushion, the 2 blank bits of grey with green in the middle looks odd

That picture looks like there is someone's head/shoulders that will be right in front of that screen? If there tall, the back of their head might even be resting against the screen?

Surely they didn't make such basic mistake?

As long as the current PIS system continues to work alongside the new one. Then its all good

The two are unfortunately from different vendors so this is still very much up in the air.

The original Desiro PIS fit out was by Annax and the new system is by KeTech.

Could that be due to the material used on the cushion and headrest (non patterned) being different and harder wearing perhaps?

It could be, but I would imagine you could apply pattern to that material if you wanted to.

Not sure how good the pattern would print onto ribbed material though? Most ribbed domestic carpets I've seen are plain colour.

So any danger of this entering regular traffic yet? It seems to have managed about two half days in service so far.

I was wondering why their has been little footage and photos since it was first out in service

Hopefully 106 and 123 are not far of being done so they can return all 3 units so LNR can do the supposed launch of the refurbished units?

I have a feeling 115 came back early as it was needed for services. Wouldn’t be surprised it that was true given the strict amount of units available until december

What reason they had for that is beyond me

Ive heard from an LNR member of staff that the 350/1 refurbishment is meant to be kicking in some point with 1 train per week

At this rate the first 3 aint gonna return till Christmas

this major overhaul programme seems a tad hit and miss, the maintenance programme should be able to cope with the shortfall in availabilty...i suspect service demand is at the extreme when it comes to LTM & STM plans, god help when they have sidejob units out of traffic

You would think if its so much of a problem they would send the 3 units back into service but nothing seems to be happening?

350115 was out today on the 09:26 Northampton to Euston had a ride but cant say I'm impressed after how long its taken.
The seats and carpets are better, the new screens arent being used and just say welcome aboard.
The most poor points is the fact all the internal posters are still all LM, the CCTV and route map labels still have a blanking panel over London Midland.
Theres a 3pin and USB socket at every pair of seats which is good.
I was looking forward to working the refurbs, sadly as with most aspects, it's a let down.

Doesn’t surprise me considering they probably want to save money like SWR and actually nothing has seem to have changed since 115 was first in service after the refurb. Has it had the full exterior work yet or no?

having a USB point at every seat is a bonus though compared to other TOCs refurbs
