That would be better actually, to comply with the 'simplicity' movement. An announcement like this can be made but it's a matter of whether or not the PIS team will approve of it.

The fuel gauge in your car has a nice simple arrow saying which side the nozzle needs to go in - surely it's not beyond the whit of man to have the PIS showing something similar.

◀️ London Liverpool Street
Seven Kings ▶️

On stations where the platform might not be known until very late you could have

Romford
which then turns into
Romford ▶️
as the platforms become known?

(no idea which side the doors will open in these stations - simply examples)

The frequent commuter wouldn't care as they already know, the semi-frequent user at an unfamiliar (or multi-platform) station would have a useful hint, and everyone who doesn't know what it means can ignore it (if they even notice it).

I have to say the "next three stops" seemed a gimmick when our local bus company introduced them, but are surprisingly useful, even in familiar areas, and when you are going away from your usual route even more so. On trains this would be even more useful where it feels like there isn't enough time for the train to come to a stop, for you to read the sign, realise it's your stop, scoop up your stuff, grab your bags, get to the doors and exit the train. (Although to be fair station signs on the underground seem to be better placed and more frequent than national rail which helps you read them before the train has stopped - and they are usually placed low enough to read from the train - even for lanky sods like me when in an aisle seat!)

I would've thought that auto-close would be inhibited at core stations, as there would be no way that passengers on the platform side could reopen the screen doors.

Indeed, I have no idea why SpacePhoenix keeps asking when his original questions have long been resolved.

Yet again assuming things:roll:

None of us know if there will be buttons at the PEDs to re-open them

Making reasonable assumptions based on my understanding of engineering and having talked with people involved in the project.

There's a very informative webpage that details the function and operation of the PEDs, nowhere does it discuss user-operated buttons.

Passenger open buttons on PEDS would introduce an unacceptable failure mode. (In simple terms, a passenger opening a door without a train present under fault conditions.) Can't see it for that one reason.

Do we really need announcements of which side the doors open? Surely it becomes obvious as the train pulls into the station?

There are fewer clues to the platform side when in tunnels, and letting passengers know ahead of time reduces dwell times - passengers move out of the way that might be stood in the doorways.

My experience is that passengers generally couldn't give a toss and will continue to stand in the door entrances pretending that they're not in the way. Human nature. They prioritise their ability to exit first, especially at busy stations, ahead of consideration for others.

What car is that in then, cos none of mine ever had such an arrow on them. I wouldn't have thought that's something one would need repeated reminding of ! ;)

Really? All mine have, and it's one of those things a lot of people never notice or realise actually shows which side the cap is on!

For those more considerate passengers it helps a lot, or for those with substantial luggage.

Fiesta, was shown by the dealer when I bought it. Noticed it on numerous hire cars since where it is very useful indeed.

Perhaps at some stations, but less so at the weird ones where an out of use platform first appears the wrong side...

The displays are two-sided, so an arrow would be on the wrong side on half of the screens, unless they are smart enough to show different things.

I noticed that the Jubilee line has announcements "doors will open on the right hand side".

Not sure that it made any difference to passenger behaviour when we were packed in like sardines between Stratford and Westminster.

I'm mid-journey on 345007 and wanted to report a screw rolling around in the ceiling panel but it won't be easy finding it I guess!

Secondly, the PIS seems to stutter a fair bit, often missing out the first word in a phrase, especially upon leaving stations. The driver also made a live announcement and that was so loud it became distorted.

I've noticed that above the windows (inside) there are deep screw holes that should really have caps on them to hide them.

Lastly, the exterior dot matrix displays a different head code (8A07) to those published on the likes of realtime trains. Any idea why?

Something else I've noticed with regards to the PIS - the moving route map doesn't show interchange with London Overground at either Manor Park or Forest Gate. The announcement does say "Exit for ... London Overground station" I think the information should be added.
The printed in-car line diagrams (and the pocket Tube maps) don't show interchange between Manor Park & Woodgrange Park (but should).

8A07 is one of the PIS codes as below.

8A03 – All Stations from London Liverpool Street to Shenfield
8A07 – All Stations from Shenfield to London Liverpool Street.

Definitely not if you don't provide any indication of which coach this is in!

Sound like London’s Francilien due to the motor noise. I may ride one soon, but when more come in so I don't have to wait long.

I did one yesterday just from Stratford to Liverpool street. I was pretty impressed to be honest, they seem incredibly spacious and quiet and should be a huge step up over the 315s. I wouldn't fancy doing long distance on one but unless you really didn't want to change at Paddington etc then very few will be.
There were only 2other regular passengers in my coach chatting to a tfl staff member he said another additional run will start in a couple of weeks again running between services like it does now and will use another unit once its got enough test miles done.

There's only one at present, 10:35 Liverpool St to Shenfield and returns at 11:29 (I think, I did it yesterday and can't remember!!).
The units are nice and quick, but the announcements did seem to be very loud. Time will tell, but I think a lack of toilets and bins will cause them to be messed up quite quickly.

Just spotted 2Z06 and 2Z07 on realtime trains

12:35 Liverpool Street to Gidea Park and 14:19 Gidea Park to Liverpool Street

Could this be the second class 345 in service?

Could also just be the same unit doing another run?
