Almost....
Leyton, Blackrod & Adlington are all complete ready for pairs of 323s, just Leyland awaiting completion.
Current plan is December TT change for pairs of 323s on the Blackpool - Airport run, dependant on training.
I live in Leyland and when I was on the platforms last month they looked complete to me. The barriers stopping people accessing the extension had been removed and the volunteers who look after the platforms and the floral displays were out in force.

Shame, as I found the 331s nice to commute to work on, but if we're going back to 3+2 cattle class (with even higher fares) I'll be driving again.

Not every train will be a 323, you'll still get the four cars out on some work, just be a case of working out which!

I caught a 4 car 331s from picadilly to heald green somewhat regularly and at picadilly it was announced that passengers for heald green and one other staion (forgot which, sorry) had to travell in the front 3 coaches.

Is this just some stupidity with the 331s? or will platform length at stations between picadilly and the airpot be an issue with running double 323s?

The three stations with platforms not long enough had them lengthened last year thankfully.

It's not uncommon for 331s (and 195s) to randomly announce a platform to be shorter than it actually is.

Looking at Google maps I see the platforms at Heald Green are approximately 180m, which is more than enough for a 140m double 323.

What is the rationale for downgrading 331s to 323s on the Blackpool route?
When the choice came down to keeping the 319s or getting more 323s most on here were clamouring for the 323s. The 319s were a four car unit and operated mainly on services out of Liverpool as both six car 323s and 331s are too lonf for most platforms in the Merseyside area. So the four car 331/1 have returned to the area to replace the 319s. Hence those services between Blackpool North and Manchester Airport currently formed of 331/1 will probably be replaced by pairs of 323s. As most services on the route retain pairs of 331/0 people who dislike the 323s can always ensure that they get on the type of unit that they prefer.
