Probably well worth a final workings mention on this thread of 317 workings:
Tuesday 26th July 2022 saw.
1. 5G43 1001 Ilford E.M.U.D to London Liverpool Street.
2. 5G44 1037 London Liverpool Street to Cambridge Sidings North.
317337 317338 doing the honours of what was the final ever 317 running under their own power on the network before going sadly to Ely from Cambridge for the inevitable. However around 1037 hours from platform 9 on this day Tuesday 26th July 2022. Would most likely be the final day ever a 317 was finally recorded and archived here on this thread. Of departing London Liverpool Street a London terminus under its own power. Of nearly 40 loyal years of service to London and the commuter areas they served.
However what can be said upon their departure is they most certainly started and ironically how they have finished. Started with a national rail strike around 82..
And finished in 2022 another year of national rail strikes. Fighting to the end.
RIP 317s you have served London and the counties well. Yes in many aspects travel especially on the Cambridge lines will never be the same.
