...and has the graffiti been removed from the affected units?
Yes, unless there's been more recent attacks. 006 was cleaned but I don't think it's been used since. It's been parked next to the depot with a notice in the cab window for a while. I've not been able to read it when I've gone past, though.

Looks like 230 008 has been working well today.
150 284 in the opposite hour, on the other hand, ran increasingly late and has been turned at Wrexham General but is still 30-odd down.

The 1.30 was cancelled because 230008 failed, one of the others was shunted in for the 3.30

RTT can only offer the information it is given.

I know that but some people take it as gospel what is on there
I was on a TfW class 175 service to Manchester Airport yesterday which was shown as 5-car (3-car plus 2-car), and indeed it was from Flint - luxury.
However, the 2-car set was detached at Chester, but RTT continued to show it as a 5-car for the rest of the diagram.
RTT remains the best source of train information available to the public - I wouldn't be without it.

RTT isn’t always right, i found out this morning that 230008 had failed yesterday and went back to Birkenhead, 230009 took over

Fair enough, I was just surprised how quick they were swapped - 90 minutes at General between 008 failing and 009 taking over. Anyone know what the issue was?

They have the other 230 there for crew training so i think a swap is quite easy and the failure can go back to Birkenhead

There has to be a rescue unit available. So if one fails and returns to depot. There still needs to be 2 others available. One for service, one for rescue.

Bought a freedom of the North West 7 day rover and headed from Bradford to Bidston to try out the 230s as far as Shotton. Waited patiently for the 1633 Bidston to Wrexham service only for 230010 to arrive half an hour late. I got say down and was told by the conductor that the train had failed.
As annoyed as I was i would never take my frustrations out on those staff who have to take abuse from passengers when services are cancelled.
Whilst I do not use the Wrexham to Bidston line,I have been keeping up to date with diagrams/workings and over the last few weeks the service has been an absolute shambles and the communities along that line deserve much better.
Bring back the 150s. At least they are mostly reliable.

As the previous contributor asked, what was the reason for the failure.

I’m sorry i’m not a mechanic i only tell you what the traincrew say, it’s usually a problem with the batteries or the engines. Another one failed at Bidston yesterday 230010 i think it was, i’m very sorry i don’t know what the problem was but it failed and the trains were cancelled again and there are no trains again on Saturday only buses

The 230 gave no problems at all and hopefully it continues. For the time being there is a fitter onboard with a laptop who is on hand to deal with any faults should they occur. Once they've bedded into service a bit the onboard fitter will stay at the depot like with other stock.
From a while back, Is the fitter still on the trains?

They took them off last week as reliability wasn't an issue. Last time I checked they were onboard for the ECS journey from Birkenhead North to Wrexham and the first service from Wrexham to Bidston, where they would then get off and go back to the depot.

Whether this has changed since the recent reliability issues I'm not sure. Overall they seem to be doing OK even with this weeks problems. The new CAF 197s arnt exactly problem free either but there are more of them available and easier to swap out at Chester with another unit - whereas a replacement 230 has to come from Birkenhead or be repositioned from wherever it is on training. New trains are always problematic at first as we all know!

This is really poor. At least 2 failures a week since introduction.

How does this failure rate compare with that of Marston vale? I know they're not comparable lines, just curious about performance when introduced

Will any units be parked in Wrexham or all at Birkenhead ? I thought the original plan was to park some overnight in the bays at Wrexham general formerly used by wrexham&shropshire railway.
I ask as if there were some there it would presumably avoid as many cancellations

I managed to go on one this week - I was actually quite impressed! (Prepares for hate)

I don’t know exactly but the train crew say it’s usually a problem with the engines
But each unit has 4 Ford Duratorq engines, presumably new, or refurbished, but if one fails, the other 3 should provide service. Unless the monitoring software stops the train?
