Had 185125 and 185146 last week on a trip to Manchester Airport, both done. First time on refurbed units and they look brilliant.

I think I have read somewhere that the priority will be to run refurbished units on Ordsall Curve services ie Manchester Airport - York - Middlesbrough / Newcastle. I wonder whether this will be conformed to from tomorrow?

A refurbished one for the last ever Cheshire Lines service would have been nice...

Appears to be a new male automated announcement voice thing on the 185s now to (at least there is on the one I’m on at the moment).

Considering they've gone to Atos Anne from the in-house recorded system it wouldn't suprise me if they've got a more professional sounding system on board too.

It's amazing what you get used to though. I agree it wasn't great but i kind of miss it! This new chap sounds even less thrilled and just rather shouty.

I hope so, I found the old one just sounded rude, unwelcoming and clipped.

I've encountered it! It's... weird. Sounds a bit more like a pre-recorded phone menu thing than a rail announcement to me. Slightly unsettling.
Also it's in two different voices, and one of the announcements is still one of the old ones. It's a bit weird, and in typical First fashion it could be loads better.

Well why not Cavalier then. Nova means doesn't go in Spanish. Ha ha. (Alright, two separate words). I agree with you though, have been on a few and really like the refurb, can't wait to try First class.

As an aside I once read an article about brand names that don't work abroad. If I remember correctly in China they use characters so the name sounds the same as in the West. Apparently Pepsi Cola meant "Brings Esteemed Relatives Back To Life". Also my mum used to shorten my dads name to Mal. I can only imagine what the locals were thinking when she was calling his name out in a French supermarket.

Sega is Italian slang for an act of self love and/or a foolish and contemptible person.

If we're going for Novas 1 -3 why not let the train crew do what every teenage Nova driver did in the mid to late 90s with their vehicle and customise it.

I dream of the day I turn up at a station to find a class 68 and mk 5 Nova 3 rake fitted with a full plastic body skirt, blacked out windows, an 'on a mission sticker' go faster stripes with some badly distorted techno music pumping out from the cab . Drivers on the Novas to be issued with a new uniform of fake Burberry cap, tracksuit and a sovereign ring from Elizabeth Duke at Argos.

With a bit of imagination and a 10 quid halfords lvoucher we could have the three fleets looking something like this (neither the image or indeed the car are mine)images (2).jpeg

185133 has now been fitted with the new large information screens throughout the unit.

They just cycle between a TPE route map and general information about TPE at the moment.

Similar (but different - perhaps a competitors product?) to the ones that have been on Hull Trains units for some time now (and I think latterly a VTEC set?).

On HT they cycle between showing a summary of departures at the next station calling point (with platform numbers), a journey progress screen giving an idea of how long to the next stop, a summary of LU line performance when heading towards London, a list of BBC News headlines, and various HT adverts. I think they're really quite a useful addition.

Looking forward to seeing the route map, as the existing ones above the doors don't fully show the updated service pattern.
The movements over the Ordsall Chord aren't clear and none of the new local calls between Leeds and Manchester are included.

Keep a look out - some of the 185s have got new maps which reflect all those things.

Someone posted a picture on their Twitter feed yesterday

Yeah that was me lol, and it was 185134 not 133. Seems to take around 30 seconds to a minute before it changes between the images and seems whilst it is in a station the thing stops changing whats displayed and remains on what it ended up on, for example when I took that image it stopped on the conditions of carriage

So is the funny northern 'Welcome to this TransPennine Express service to X' not featured on the 185s anymore? I liked her announcements!

133 definitely has the screens as well then.

I was on it yesterday.

Yep, a couple of weeks ago I was on a refurbished unit in First Class and at least two people with standard tickets had "mistook" the area as standard.

Experience shows that passengers holding first class tickets very rarely "mistakenly" sit in standard. Odd that.

Hopefully the remedial measures referred to by BMI Flyer in #801 are being implemented as quickly as possible.

You’d be surprised actually how many people sit in standard with first class tickets and when you tell them where first class is they go “ooh, I didn’t realise. It seemed to smart in here I thought this was first”

Regarding the announcement voices - It seems that the new male voice is on the Hull and Leeds stopping/semi fast services from Manchester and other routes still use the old female voice.

I can't speak for Cleethorpes/Scotland services.
