Allocated on RTT as 175002, first time one has appeared on the allocations in a good while!

A lot of it is down to the DfT refusing to have a proper rolling stock plan.

I think from memory, nothing has found it's way out of Ely since 12th June bar 2x175s as far as March and back again

Post 947, 24 April 2025 has 6 Units at Wolverton - 001/003/006*/011/107/108.

If they got them to Laira they could replace the Okehampton 150s and Barnstaple 158s

I think the castles will have to soldier on a bit longer.

Will be a while until they appear on the Oke and Barny, a lot of crews have to be trained yet.

Absolutely - just one of countless ways the privatised railway is less efficient than a nationalised one.

A lot of it is down to the DfT refusing to have a proper rolling stock plan.

It's been nigh-on impossible to have a rolling stock strategy under the erstwhile franchising regime, especially latterly where bidders were incentived to replace existing rolling stock irrespective of whether it was life expired or had an obvious home to go to.

The last major rolling stock plan the DfT led on was IEP, or as Roger Ford put it, the Incredibly Expensive Project.

Considering how badly that went, and to a lesser extent the 700s, I'm glad that there isn't a DFT rolling stock plan.

Why? Take a proven product, buy at high volume, reduce training costs, increase flexibility. There’s a reason why airlines standardise fleets

At risk of hijacking the thread, my objection isn't to standardised rolling stock plans - I just don't want the current DFT management to have anything to do with them.

There have been two arrivals at Ely this morning, one from Derby (37s?) and the other from Barrow Hill??

The one from Barrow Hill is operated by Freightliner and is classed as aggregates, doesn't seem to be related to the Class 175s.

Can they actually shunt the units (as in couple to them and release brakes), or do they need some form of intermediate/barrier vehicle with special couplers one end.

Presumably any going to Wolverton take barriers with them, so do they need a third barrier at Ely too

It may be for the other stock not necessarily the 175s as they need a barrier, dont think they left one at ely as they took two with the move this moring. I have seen them moving around by themselves and there are people working there keeping them in warm storage.
