With the GBR livery having just been unveiled, there's really no point painting them green.
That's still years away and will probably change multiple times before anyone even thinks about ordering paint.

They also have said theres space for "better brands like gwr". Leaving room for regions i see. That's still years away and will probably change multiple times before anyone even thinks about ordering paint.
The livery will start to be rolled out from Spring 2026, the DfT have said. That's still years away and will probably change multiple times before anyone even thinks about ordering paint.

Guard opens/Guard shuts. Also out of interest what method of guard operation is being used on these GWR class 175 trains?
Rolling stock of TOCs that are still to be nationalised won't be done until they are in public ownership.Oh I missed that.
That's shockingly quick, going off topic I know, but did they indicate what would be first?

I would imagine, at a guess, that on launch day each nationalised company will unveil at least one unit in the new livery.
The service used to run in two parts. Cardiff to Taunton and Exeter or Plymouth to Penzance. The Cardiff end was mainly 150s. I'm not sure about Cornwall. The through service started during the short HST era. Even though I quite like 150s, Cardiff to Plymouth, let alone Penzance, is too long a journey on them.Agree. The Cardiff - Penzance service evolved as Sprinters, and GTi HSTs were only ever a stopgap for the time they spent on the service. IMHO it is pretty poor the DFT have split the route at Exeter purely to stage the gradual replacement of the HSTs by 175s.
I've not seen any plans (or even intentions) to nationalise ROSCO's in the foreseeable - have I missed something?Rolling stock of TOCs that are still to be nationalised won't be done until they are in public ownership.

I didn’t mention the ROSCOs. It’s whether a TOC has been brought back into public ownership that will influence the timing of the commencement of fleet reliverying.I've not seen any plans (or even intentions) to nationalise ROSCO's in the foreseeable - have I missed something?
I understood this comment to be that the livery of nationalised TOCs would be the first to change. As GWR nationalisation date is still TBC in 2026, the 175s aren't going to get GBR branding yetI've not seen any plans (or even intentions) to nationalise ROSCO's in the foreseeable - have I missed something?

Do we really believe that every single loco and unit is going to be repainted into a GBR livery? Can you imagine how long that would take and the amount of money it would cost to complete? And that is before we consider that Southeastern have just completed a repaint* programme on the 376s, Northern have just repainted* a load of 323s, EMR are painting* their 158s & XC are repainting* the Voyagers (to name a few) - clearly there is no concern from any of them regarding this proposed new livery for GBR.With the GBR livery having just been unveiled, there's really no point painting them green.
Apologies John R. I misread your OP. Re-reading it again, it makes perfect sense.I didn’t mention the ROSCOs. It’s whether a TOC has been brought back into public ownership that will influence the timing of the commencement of fleet reliverying.
Eventually, yes. A paint job (same proviso) doesn’t last for ever. There will be some that have to be done “now” for practical reasons or where the contract has already been signed. For others which are not quite at either of those stages , it makes sense to wait.Do we really believe that every single loco and unit is going to be repainted into a GBR livery? *I am using the word "paint" to indicate a change of colour not to mean they have their paintbrushes out. I am fully aware most will be vinyl as are everyone else on the forum - sorry pedants![]()
By the time they get anywhere near having every single loco/unit in a GBR livery, another Government will be privatising the railways againEventually, yes. Fair point - we don't want the admin team on here having to waste more red ink on usThat aside perhaps the thread should return to the subject 'Class 175s to GWR' rather than plans for GBR wasting money on livery changes?
175001 been down to Penzance training before it's passenger duties. 175003 also out and about.175001 out again today on booked diagram.
Probably in early 2026 on crew training/ familiarisation. When might we see one in Exeter?
175008 has got you covered. Any usable parts (which is probably a fair few) will be used to keep the rest going. Not a bad shout about the 180s though, if anyone knows any more about if that's compatible please say.Out of interest could class 180 parts be theoretically used in class 175's as they are of the same family and a similar design.
Surely it would be useful to strip the off lease 180's at ely of parts and use them as 175 spares as the 175's aren't exactly the most reliable.
There's not too much on the underframe of a 180's that's common to the 175's, given 008 can be stripped if required can't see Angel wanting the 180's stripped of parts yet.175008 has got you covered. Correct yes.Is 008 one of the units that caught fire in the late TFW days?
Correct yes.
008 is 2 of the units that caught fire. The good coach was swapped with a fire damaged of 101.I assumed it was just another routine 175 engine fire, was it worse than the other numerous fires this fleet has suffered in the past then?
