Cab layout and the TMS.
Exactly what I was going to say. The cab layout pretty much the same as a 170. The 172/1s and 0s have a Bombardier train management system (MITRAC) which is used to monitor faults.Cab layout and the TMS.
Surprised no-one has mentioned the removal of the DOO equipment yet. Looks like they’ve blanked over the places they used to be.
Am I missing something or have they vinyled over or removed the DOO cameras![]()

It seems that they have been spending about 6 weeks at Ilford for fitting of toilet etc.
This is my understanding (in chronological order), but I'm happy to be corrected.
172002: To Ilford July 2018. To Tyseley 22 Dec 2018.
172006: To Ilford Dec 2018(?). To Tyseley 26 Jan 2019.
172003: To Ilford Jan 2019. To Tyseley 29 Mar 2019.
172008: To Ilford 18 Feb 2019. To Tyseley 5 Apr 2019.
172005: To Ilford 18 Feb 2019. To Tyseley 12 Apr 2019.
The remaining 3 remained in service with LO until:
172001 + 172007: To Ilford 18 Mar 2019 (am).
172004: To Ilford 18 Mar 2019 (pm).
One or more of these may have moved to Tyseley yesterday (27 Apr) but this has yet to be confirmed.
003 and 008 are definitely in the new livery. There may be others.
Can I just sumerise what I think the situations will, so please correct me if I am wrong.
1 unit at Leamington for the Leamington-Coventry-Nuneaton service
1 unit at Coventry also for the Leamington-Coventry-Nuneaton service (although a WMR service I am assuming that it will be worked by LNR crews)
1 unit at Worcester for the Birmingham(New St)-Hereford service
5 units at Tyseley for the Snow Hill services and maintenance spare
I am assuming that the units will be rotated to bring the outstationed units back to Tyseley on a regular basis.
It will be interesting to see the 139s when re-branded.According to a staff brief we have had today the first 172/0 will enter service on Tuesday on the 150 diagram, this may have been mentioned already.
From 19th may all 8 172s are in traffic, 2 on Leamington-Nuneaton, 2 on additional snow hill services and the others to release 172/2s
By the end of may all 172s and the 139s will be rebranded.
With the timetable enhancements from 20th May I am interested to know how many vehicles are required each day to deliver the Snow Hill Lines service and will it be all 172s or supplemented by 170s/153s.According to a staff brief we have had today the first 172/0 will enter service on Tuesday on the 150 diagram, this may have been mentioned already.

Not sure where you’ve got that information from. It’s more likely that it’ll be covered by a mixture of all 172s.172/0s will be replacing the class 170 diagrams

Good thing 172 training has started already on the Leamington to nuneton line
That seems to be a change relating to the introduction of the electric services of the Chase Line. The 1759 departure to Great Malvern currently is formed from an inbound working from Rugeley. In the new timetable the Rugeley-New St. service is extended to International using an EMU. This leaves the requirement to source a DMU for the 1759 service from Tyseley -- the only logical explanation I can think of regarding why it runs to International initially is that there isn't an available path through Bordesley/Grand Jct to arrive just before forming the Worcester-bound service, so to avoid having a unit hogging platform space at New St they send it out to International to use some time.Looking through departures from Tyseley during the day one rather unusual DMU working appears to be a shuttle to Birmimgham International in the evening peak. Looks to come ecs from Tyseley to form 1717 Birmingham New street to.international then back ecs to form a Hereford.
I think we can expect some stuff on the WMR DMU turns from 20th May that we have not seen before. How about a pair of 153s on a Hereford job. I also suspect that RTT will see another iteration before the timetable change. That seems to be a change relating to the introduction of the electric services of the Chase Line. Just my thoughts, the real reason could be very different.

Yes but we are talking about a 172, a much newer train compared to a 170Should one of those 153s drop an engine, they will still climb the Lickey, albeit very slowly. A 2 car 170 that drops an engine will not. It will have to be assisted. Yes, I speak from experience of both happening.
